I'm located in Woburn, Ma, Middlesex County. I currently have a Whistler TRX1 and a TRX2 (haven't started using the trx2 yet). I listen to all the local cities and towns and mainly the Mass State Police. I previously had the Radioshack Pro 668 and loved it. With the TRX1 there is so much more distortion and I don't hear as much as i did with the Pro668. I alwasy miss the beginning of transmissions. I know there is a million different factors of why it could be happening. I've read some threads about Uniden Scanners handeling simulcast better. I'm hoping someone could reccommend a scanner (mobile and base) that would be a better fit for my area. I've been planning on purchasing another but need some expert opinons before I do. I also wanted to purchase new antennas for my TRX1 to try and was looking for some opinions on that as well. I already have BNC W-881 Portable Antenna, RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Scanner Whip Antenna, Radioshack 800MHz Scanner Antenna and a TRAM 1094-BNC Scanner 3 1/2" Magnet Antenna.

If the database is accurate, Police are P25 UHF conventional & look to be in the clear so it doesn't appear to me like simulcast distortion is the issue here. They utilize the same frequency with mixed modes. Do you have two memory channels assigned for each (one for each mode?) Though I myself prefer Unidens over Whistler, the TRX-1 should in theory be able to bring the frequency in as long as the signal is strong enough. The 800mhz antenna you brought up would work but it may not be ideal. I've had good luck with my Comet w100RX, they come in BNC and are fully collapsible and adjustable for whichever band you're monitoring. The 800mhz antenna would bring in the state police system ideally since it is tuned for that band but it looks like most of the sites there are simulcast so in that case I'd recommend the SDS100 or 200. Hope this helps, 73!

Do you miss the beginning of transmission on every channel or TG? Or is it just some?
