Radio shack

The radio shack models are my personal choice(pro-96,2096).They are great,I have owned the 96 for almost a year now,and I love it.I mostly listen to the lansing.jackson,and Metro detriot post talkgroups.Had a pursuit yessterday I heard on the metro south group 2008(REGD2W)It was pretty interesting.The uniden models are pretty good also from what I hear.

I got the bearcat 296D and it was a Bi#$@ to get it to program, but love it! It's all band unlike the radio Shack ones...Figured for $25 more i'de get the Uniden 'cause it got 75% more freq's than the RS models.

Using Win96, here are the frequency ranges for the PRO-96 that can be unblocked in addition to the standard ranges that are included with the scanner out of the box.

Scanner for MSP / MPSCS

I'm new to the hobby, but I think my Pro 96 is pretty easy to use. No messing with the audio for different talk groups or anything like that. It seems to do the MSP/MPSCS Motorola-type trunking automatically. Heck, I'm borderline retarded with no experience, and I had it scanning with the preloaded stuff within about ten minutes and it sounded great. It's cheaper, too (mine was $450.00 at Radio Shack). Win96 also seems easier to use, from what I could tell when I was shopping, than the Butel software. I talked to one guy with a Uniden on the phone (the first person to ever contact me for help ), and his scanner sounded a lot more complicated to use ... I think it will do more (LTR), and might be better for someone with a larger ken than mine, but I like the simple life!

One regret I have about getting the Pro-96 rather than the uniden is the Uniden's ability to have fire tones programmed, and give an alert when FD of your choice is toned out.

I have no regrets about getting the Pro-96. It works well for the MPSCS.

I got it shortly after it came out, and have had a year and a half of enjoyment since. It definately helped rekindle my interest in scanning that was starting to wane as more and more of the things I wanted to listen to went to the MPSCS.

I've owned both of the Unidens, hand held, and base/mobile, sold them. Then I had a PRO-96, sold it, and regreted it! Now I have a PRO-2096, love it, won't sell it! And, I'm probably going to buy another PRO-96.
