Depends on if you want to listen to the state of Michagan's trunked radio system or not, it is a APCO-25 Digital system. Your particular area, Gratiot County, is all conventional except for the state system. You have to make the budget decision.

By the way, that is a Pro-2051 or a Pro-2096. There are other considerations, but as you are getting back into scanning as opposed to being new at it, you should also consider alpha tagging.

Over here.
As far as whether or not to listen to MPSCS, I would have to say that even if your area is still mainly conventional, there is plenty of activity on MPSCS that you wouldn't want to miss, including MSP and your statewide district x talkgroup.

Personally, I would choose the 2096.

As you can see it all depends on what you are trying to listen to. If the digital in you area is something you aren't interested in the the Pro-2051 is a really good little unit at a attractive price. If you think you will need digital now or in the near future then the Pro-2096 is the way to go.

Myself I bought and am very satisfied with the Pro-2051. There isn't much digital in my area yet and as tight fisted as Oklahoma Politicians are there won't be much digital for some time to come.

Rc 2051vs Rc 2096

Thanks all of you on the good advice,it look's like I'll be geting the RC 2096 but alas I have to save up a few more greenbacks. I like the idea of listening to MSP and as some of you stated it will be a digital world.

Great choice, but don't wait too long! Both Radio Shack's Digital scanners, the PRO-96 hand-held, and the PRO-2096 base/mobile, are currently on sale @ $449.99 ($50.00 off the regular price).

And if you apply for a new RS Credit Card and purchase it then, they take another 10% off making it come out at $404.99, which seems like a pretty good deal. :)
