What software updates are available for BC296D(bought Dec03)

I was just on Unidens website, and saw there are a couple firmware updates for my BC296D

I was wondering what the intended benefits of these updates are and if I should install them (any bad side effects)?

I have a 796, but it has the same card-

The download for the BCi96 card does this:

The firmware updates addressed by this download:

1. Reduce 800MHz-900MHz birdies to avoid interference on trunking systems.

2. Adjust APCO25 performance to improve operation on some systems.

and the other download(there were two for my 796) should be for the Audio, there is a know problem with the audio on digital systems without the downloads.......just download them, they take about 10-15 minutes to download........

Verify your firmware versions before you attempt the updates. Turn off the scanner, press and hold down the 2,4,9 buttons and then turn on. The scanner should say load test data please wait, then it will show the firm ware version that the scanner is operating on. If there is newer version you would want to procede with the download and update.

Jasonmrule I tried holding the 2,4,and9 on my 296d and it didn't work. Should this have worked?

Works on the 296d I have here, it should also work on most all Uniden scanners. I did not add in the original post that the buttons will need to be held down while the unit is turned. Sorry for leaving that out as it is key to getting the info. :wink:
