What the difference between the Pro 197 and the Pro 2096

Greeting,
Looking thru my old records
and I saw a listing for a
Radio shack Pro 196 and then one between the Radio Shack Pro 197
Does anybody know the difference

There was no Pro-196. Perhaps you meant the Pro-96. If so, the most obvious difference is that one is a handheld, one is a mobile. You can look at the entire list of Radio Shack scanners in the RR Wiki and compare the differences yourself.

There is no Radio shack Pro 196.

There IS a Pro 96 which I'll always have an affinity for being it was the first scanner I ever heard P25 on

I just purchased a (Used) Radio Shack 197
I have a couples of Radio Shack Pro 2096
Question I have:
Has anybody done any real Investive research
between these two receivers.

The Pro-197 is a later model digital scanner than the Pro-2096.

The 2096 is a 'banks & channels' scanner, whereas the 197 is an object oriented scanner. The programming of the Pro-197 is more flexible than that used by the Pro-2096. The Pro-197 can handle LTR systems, which the Pro-2096 cannot. The 197 also make use of the NAC codes used by conventional digital channel frequencies. While the 2096 can monitor conventional digital channels, it cannot utilize the NAC.

1 The change from banks to a dynamic memory
2 The addition of P25 NACS
3 The addition of the 700MHz band trunking
4 The updated 800 trunking rebanding

Not dynamic, as in the Uniden scanners - Object Oriented. In this case, the terminology and the meaning is very significant
