After having my BCD396T for about a month now, and programming what I need manually from the keypad, I decided to give the UASD software a crack. All I want to do with it is save what I've manually programmed (which I think I've done -- I've got both a newly named .usc file and my systems are listed individually as various .usd files, sprinkled alphabetically among all the preprogrammed ones), go back in and erase everything before writing, and then re-write my ten measly systems back into the radio, with the main idea being to free up memory and tidy things up a bit. I can't figure it out! I also think my .usc file has more stuff related to the original preloaded info than I'd like. Question: Any saved config file is simply a snapshot of what you've currently got on the radio, right? You don't cherry pick what goes into it, unlike saving systems? I'm just trying to understand how to select the systems and write them back to the radio. Must you select to write both a configuration AND individual systems? I don't want to do any editing of systems at this time. Connection to the scanner is complete with no errors. I tried to decipher the Help files of the software in hopes of finding a clue, but it doesn't seem too obvious, unless one of you can direct me to it. I am getting an error message when I hit the "Write to Scanner" button, saying that it can't open a file called ".....QckSvGrp.usd" or something to that effect. I don't know why it would need that file, and that is not the name of any System I've got. So there it is.

whacker,
The *.usc file is the configuration, as it was when you saved what was on the scanner.
Go into the UASD software.
Click on the "Database" tab.
The 'left' pane has your configuration(s). (I have multiples, for various scenarios).
Either highlight it with the mouse, then select the "Edit" button, or simply double-click.
That will get you into the configuration editor.
One of the tabs you'll see is labelled as "Systems". Select it.
You'll see two panes. The left side is the systems included in that configuration file; the right side is a list of all the systems (*.usd files) in your UASD systems folder.
In the left pane, under the list of systems in the config, I suspect that you'll see one or more listed as "not found". You can delete those from the config, without affecting what's on your pc, by using the "Delete Non-Existent" button.
Once you clean up the non-existents, if you have no other tweaks or changes you want to make, then just save it.

If I remember correctly, QckSvGrp.usd would be where you would save any search or Close Call hits. If you delete it from the config, it would simply get re-created next time you saved search or CloseCall hits,

By default, when you install the software, it will also install all the preload systems. If you want to get them out of the way for clarity, you can either delete them through the UASD software, or by using Windows Explorer. I created an archive folder to hold the preloads, as well as currently inactive systems that I have been experimenting with. I move them out of the way so that I don't have to dig thru so many other unused systems when I juggle my currently active systems.

Don't forget that you can use the software to modify the opening 'splash' screen. I changed mine to my name, phone # (in case it's lost & somebody would actually return it), the configuratiion name, & date.

Did you select a scanner configuration to program if so you can click on edit and then click on "systems" tab and add or remove any system in the data base including the ones you created.
Once done close that screen and click on scanner configuration then on write to scannerand you should see a list of systems with check marks next to them these will all be loaded to the scanner
unless you uncheck them. Also note the write scanner configuration and erase check boxes next to
the systems list if unchecked you can add only systems you have checked, if that system is already in you scanner it will be duplicated unlass you click the erase box. If you want everything in configuration
click write scanner configuration and erase before writing to scanner. If you only want selected systems check boxes next to systems of intrest and click write (add) selected systems.
Hope this helps.

Success!! It's the "Scanner Configuration Editor" that saved the day. Too bad the help files in the software didn't explicitly get into that, but then, that's what this forum is for. Thanks again for the help, guys.
