What to buy? Bearcat 246T or Icom R3

I live in Quito, Ecuador....I travel to north america frequently....I am new to scanning...I do not mind reading manuals....but would like to listen to airport freq...and I do understand a little about trunking.....so would it in my interests to go for the Bearcat 246T which I saw on the web as a unit to start with... I do like the R3 but it is a little out of my price range....I would like to listen to other frequencies like FRS and police....etc....

What does everyone think.....if I do get a scanner...and get one quickly I only have this Monday to contact a dealer in Canada have it shipped to someone in Canada who will be visiting me this week.....?

The Ic-r3 is a more complicated scanner I would also recommend the 246. In fact strongly recommend the 246!
