What type antenna?

Hi im kind of new to scanning and ive been looking to buy an antenna. I live in the lake county area and I mostly listen to police frequencies in the area. Northern illinois and southern wis. Ive been looking on line ane there is just way too many to choose from. I have a bct 15 and would like to mount it in my vehical and also listen to it at home. the antenna would mostly be used for the vehicle. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

I've always found that a VHF 1/4 wave antenna has done a decent job on VHF, UHF and 800 MHz. You could spend more for a multi-band scanner antenna if you want to - but I'd save your cash for a digital-capable trunktracker or gas for your ride......

Ive looked at the larsen 150/450/800 or an austin spectra there is like a 50 dollar price diffrence is one really better than the other and would these work in this area (northern lake county, southern wis)?
