I was involved with a mock school shooting simulation in Cleves yesterday evening, and both Chiefs (Fire & Police) involved both advised the Hamilton County Communications Center that a simulation would be taking place and to dispatch the appropriate vehicles and let them handle the situation.

After the FD arrived on scene and advised there was a shooting, what did the county do? Put out an ACB (All County Broadcast) that there was a shooting at the school in Cleves and all available Law enforcement to respond. All this after they were told that this was a "Practice".

I would hate to be the administrator of Communications this morning, because let's face it they totally dropped the ball and caused more problems for the officer's on scene.

Just looking for feedback on how the other fellows RR Community feel about how this was handled???

Look forward to the feedback!!!

It may have been communicated to the supervisors at the Comm Center that it was a drill but it may not have made across the room to the radio operators in time.

If you actually listened to all the radio traffic from the start of the drill, they dispatched all units as if it were an actual incident. At tne end of each dispatch there was a brief pause, and then the dispatcher stated, "This is just a Drill." They did this for both Police & Fire Units participating in the drill, by dispatching them over FD West, and then communicating over MA 1 as well. I think last night was a bad choice for continuing the plans to hold the drill and not change it to a better day, especially with the way the weather was last night, but that is just me.

So did the county units respond as if it was a real emergency or not?

No, but there was a strong thunderstorm moving through the area and things were REALLY hopping, to say the least.

Does bad things only happen in good weather??

No, but the fact of the matter was, most of the area was under t-storm/tornado warning, and the news as well as NWS was issuing warnings, due to storms with rotation in them. After the Tornado several years ago that took out parts of blue Ash, Sycamore, etc, it would seem that most of Hamilton County is more receptive now to warnings advising of possible tornadoes and rotation. I just think, the drill probably should have been rescheduled, due to bad weather. If it was just rain it wouldn't have been so much of a problem in my mind.

I kind of agree and I kind of don't. The real fact of the matter is that it could have happened during these storms and that would have just added more training to the drill. I do see where you're coming from and I hope you see where I'm coming from and not think that I'm just being difficult.

Would a real shooting wait for better weather????

The goal is to make the training as realistic as possible. That includes holding it during inclement weather.... within reason, of course.

Thats all I was trying to say but we do have to see that point they were making about the weather. If there are tornado watches or warnings then everything must be done at that point in order to take care of the real life situations that are taking place around them.
