My first scanner was a BEARCAT 210 in 1980. I was 16 and it was a Christmas present. 10 channels and no aircraft band but I got the scanning blood because of it. I now have a pair of UNIDEN BEARCAT 250D's and while these 2 are superior in features, I'll alway have a place in my heart for that old 210.

Do crystal radios count? Well, this one tuned VHF and air. I remember taking it to Edwards to watch the shuttle landing in Cali. :D

The first real scanner I had was a Bearcat something or other. It was a ten channel LED display unit that covered up to 512 Mhz. I remember the amazement when I heard my first 40 MHz. phone conversation.

Here it is! http://www.rigpix.com/bearcat/bc50xl.htm *Wipes tear from eye* Thought it was LED.. Damn, Could have swore it covered 40 MHz.. Maybe that was the other one.:lol

Ahhh…Memories!

My first receiver of any kind, back in about ’73, was a Realistic Patrolman-6 tunable radio that I used to listen to Chesterfield, Virginia fire and EMS (Back when Channel 1 was 46.46 and Channel 2 was, I believe 46.34 mhz. EMS was also lowband, but I don’t recall the exact frequency. )

First scanner was bought for me by my dad (As was the Patrolman-6) in ’74 and was a Radio Shack 8 channel crystal controlled scanner that I used in my car. Had it for years, long gone now. Built like a tank and very sensitive, esp with the whip antenna I had on my car (A Pinto!!).

Also, as I was a member of a fire company (CFD Company 1) I had one of the old, huge, gray Motorola breadboxes that had a Quik-Call activated bell. I really loved the huge old beast. Had the best audio quality of ANY monitor I have ever owned, and could pick up any unit anywhere in the county as well as Charlottesville/Albemarle and Balto County Md on good nights!

I’ve had many other scanners and monitors over the years (Including a Plectron that stayed on 24-7 for at least a decade!) but those first three were the Ones That Started It All!

Mine was a desk top model, I believe it was a Radio Shack brand. Had it around 1992. It had ten channels and when you pressed a 1 or 2 and so on it would flash the frequency, number by number. Anyone know what model this was?

I got my first scanner in 1983. It was a programmable Regency, but I don't remember the model. I remember the pad had like blue & yellow squares. That was a good one till I got got hard up for money and sold it.

My first scanner (A Radio Shack PRO-41) did this same thing, but the Pro-41 is a handheld. Check out http://www.rigpix.com and see if you can find it.

My first scanner was a Regency 10 channel crystal control scanner (model number escapes me right now) back in 1973. My first programmable scanner was a Tenelec Memoryscan MS-2. I got it in 1973.It has 16 channels and each frequency had to be entered by entering 16 digits of "0"'s and "1"'s. It took forever but it worked great.
