What will this AC adapter fit?

I found an AC adapter and am curious if I can use it with any of my scanners.

It reads as follows:

Input: AC120V 60 Hz 14W
Output: 9V DC850mA

I have a Pro-97, BCD396T, and Pro-84. Will it work on those or damage them?

It will be OK for the PRO-97, but the others use only 2 or 3 batteries, so 9 volts is too high.
HOWEVER, you must be sure the polarity is right. The center pin needs to be positive.

Every radio has it's voltage requirements stamped on next to the jack. This information is also in the owner's manual.

The number of batteries inside the radio has little or nothing to do with the voltage requirements for the power jack. The Pro-97 is a good example, it uses 4 AA batteries, how does the relate to the 9v DC requirement of the jack? The Pro-92 uses 6 AA batteries and yet requires the same 9v DC external power. The 396T uses 3 AA batteries and the Pro-84 uses 2; yet they both require 6v DC for external power. What I am trying to get across here is the number of batteries inside the radio is no clear guide as to what the external power requirements are.

That has always had me a bit perplexed too Lou.
I never gave it a thought; ever.
I know that internal circuitry is used to provide the appropriate charging rate (or just required power) for the radio or charging the batteries so it never entered my mind to draw any correlation between the two. My old Pro-90 uses a 4 AA battery pack and takes 12v external power. :)

If this were a perfect world, the manufacturers would all build the charging circuitry in the radios to take a twelve volt input so that all it would take would be a common CLA cord or a 12-volt wall wart for anything. But that would make too much sense.....

Just before throwing the adapter away, I thought I better ask the wife if she knew what it went to. I showed it to her and sure enough. It goes to my son's keyboard. LOL. Glad I didn't throw it away! lol.

Seems like I used to see a correlation between voltage on the warts and the # of batts; e.g. 4 AA's = 6-7/5 volts but not so much anymore.
