Over the last couple of years I have seen a number of posts about P25 digital Scanners and there inability to receive due to the simulcast overlay issues we all deal with..

I know a number of users who have returned various units, so I am curious as to what users are deploying if anything today..

This appears to be the most current unit, but does it work in MetroAtlanta ??

GRE PSR-600 Police Scanner Radio

My intenet is to scan, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Fulton and Maybe Atlanta.. Thinking two or three units. What is working for you ?

You can just about forget Gwinnett, except FD, as they are encrypted. DeKalb and Atlanta are DTRS and the Atlanta system is truly an awesome system to listen to. DeKalb is good, but poor old Fulco is still stuck in the dinosaur age of analog.

I have both a Pro 106 and a 396XT, both do an okay job on all said systems, I give the edge to the Pro-106 but still, don't expect it to be perfect all the time. Just depends on your location.

396XT user here. From my location in North DeKalb, I can get DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb, and what little there is of Gwinnett just fine, and that's with the stock antenna, indoors. I can get Atlanta's P25 too, but the scanner has to be in just the right spot on my desk for it not to be all garbled. Works great in the car, too, with a trunklid mounted tri-band antenna.

One thing that a lot of people are overlooking with the GRE scanners, is the fact that you can turn the multisite from ROAM, to OFF or STATionary. Not sure if the Unidens can do this. That way, you will only receive the strongest transmitter whether at home, or on the road. Using a dedicated 800Mhz antenna will make the radio function better. I have no problem monitoring Hall (just FD), Gwinnett (just FD), Forsyth (FD and SO), De Kalb (FD, SO, and city PD's), home and mobile. Need to be mobile and southern Gwinnett to get the ATL and Cobb. All set to OFF on the multisite tab on Win500. I think that you will find the 600 to be a great digital trunktracker out of the box. The only tweaking I have ever done is to the display time of the alphatag on trunked systems.

Larry
