Except for branding (GRE vs RadioShack), and the fact that they won't "clone" to each other, they're identical.

You are probably more likely to get updates from GRE versus Radio Shack

(If I am wrong on that, please correct me. I only have a 2055 and a Pro82 & Pro84 from them. I am not familiar with their newer models and whether or not thay are releasing firmware.)

One is a handheld and one is a base so which is better for you.
The GRE PSR-400 and RadioShack PRO-163 are both "base" units. The "handheld" versions are the PSR-300 and PRO-164.

MA,
I know I came to the right place. I decided on the PSR 400.

Thank all of you for your input. :D

I would go with the GRE . why ? Well my experiance with radio scack scanners has not been the best, and all I here is nothing but good out of the GRE product, but I also found out that GRE makes there scanners for Radio Shack , but they put the radio shack logo on them so both are really the same far as quality

1. Totally different hardware, including LCD
2. If you're dead-set against a PRO-163 because it's "RadioShack", maybe consider the PSR-400? It's the same radio with different paint, and GRE has been extremely responsive to customer concerns.

The LCD in the PSR-300/400 / PRO-164/163 is identical to the one in the PSR-500/600. My PSR-600 has been up 24/7 since I received it a few months ago. My PSR-500 is one of the earliest, has been running ~22/7 since I received it, and has suffered some "abuse" (drops, etc.). Both radios' LCDs are just fine.
