I've always wondered what DC stands for on some systems. The City of Norman trunked system uses DC in their alphanumeric channel displays. Their dispatch channels are labled DC, like OU DC, for example. I would venture a guess that the D stands for Dispatch, but I was wondering if anyone knows for sure. Thanks.

In Fayetteville, AR.. they refer to dispatch as either CDC.. or Central... or Dispatch. I'm assuming here.. so be careful.. but I would say CDC is Central Dispatch Center. And I'll go out on a limb and say that DC might very well stand for Dispatch Center.

Just a thought!

If it's Fire Department, we use the term "DC" for either District Chief, or Deputy Chief.

That would be too easy. Here in Norman, the dispatch channels are tagged "DC", for fire, police, and OU PD. I've even heard the DC tag used on-air.

"Dispatch Center" certainly makes sense.

However, in Fayetteville, Ark, they refer to the dispatcher as "CDC" as in "Engine 2 to CDC" (I used to live there, too!). Here, it's "Norman".

Come to think of it.. I think only the fire department in Fayetteville uses "CDC"

I hear police officers refer to dispatch as "Headquarters"

What's that?! :p hehe

The other day I heard a fire dept truck that was on a none DC channel call in and say TruckXX going back to "Dispatch channel". So at least in his mind it was "dispatch channel".

Seeing as how he didn't refer to it as a channel number and how he specifically called it "dispatch channel" and not "the dispatch channel", I would say that it probably does stand for "Dispatch Channel". It would make sense anyway, with the trunked systems having all the tactical channels and such.
