I was just going to ask the same question about which transmitter. That's the same frequency that is used up here in Edmonton and it sounded fine.

Maybe they are just doing some work on the transmitter in Calgary?

Oops, forgot that:
a) That freq is used in more than one city in Alberta, and
b) my profile doesn't say what city I'm in.

No prob.

Those Environment Canada sites don't seem to get a lot of maintenance. The Calgary station was running +/- 6.5 kHz deviation last week, where they would only be licensed for max +/- 5.0.

A few years ago, Calgary 162.400 has a power supply failing where there was a hum on the audio, until it finally quit one day. It was down for about 6 weeks until I phoned them, and then it was on the air the next day.

Don't listen to it much

I did note after reading RR that is was just a carrier. Mind you, every time I try to listen for weather updates, it seems to be in French. Not having spoken French for 30 years, no point in listening to it.

Continuous Tone

I guess with the brief snow storm this afternoon, just receiving a continuous tone on this frequency.

Listen very little

I must admit that when it was all English, I would routinely listen, especially if summer/winter storms were forecast. Now, I seldom listen. I took 3 years of French in High School, but my knowledge today is very limited as have not had to use French. And with all the weather apps, radar available on computers and phones, there is more info. available on these, then listen and waiting for the English to come up. I have always said that they should have both official languages on separate frequencies. Also, I do not turn on any weather alerts because of this. I know that the languages rotate, but if English isn't being done when I turn to 162.400, I do not monitor it at all. Just switched to see if the tone/squeel is still on that frequency and it is [Sunday evening, 2011 Dec. 4 2130 hours].
