hello new to this im thinking of buying a handheld scanner but i want to know the best and cheapest one to buy ie best make

Thats akin to asking, whats the best car on the market, or whats the best computer to buy.

It all depends on what you are needing it for.

The area your in, wether they are digital or analoge. Wether you would like to listen to Mil-Air or not.

There is alot of information you need to give us in order to help you select the right scanenr for you.

A good starter model is the RS Pro83 and you can get it for around $119.00. You can also check Ebay.

where do you live? check the database for your county. is there trunked systems in your county, or just conventional? digital or not? and what do u want to hear? aircraft, milair, etc.. if your area is just conventional analog, i would recommend the BC80XLT. 50 channels in 5 banks. 11bands (lowband, 144-174 vhf, 400-512, 800mhz band) its a great beginner for 89 bucks.
