Jackson MS has supposedly officially joined the Regional TRS with Hinds County, Madison, Ridgeland, and local State Agencies.. No new talkgroups have been submitted as of yet.. but as soon as they are I will update the db. No new infor has yet been submitted for the Yazoo E-911 TRS. New updates are desperately wanted from anyone monitoring!

Switch did occur in Jackson MS

Jackson did officially switch on Monday of this week which was December 15, 2008. I heard a bit of verbal confusion on EDACS air the first day with some JPD units not having their new radios, but all I hear now is Jatran, Public Works and a bunch of silence. It's really eerie to hear nothing from JPD and FD, so I've been monitoring Rankin and Madison more.

I know most of my hinds county system scanner searches previously resulted in the notorious machine gun sound which I think is encryption. I need to unlock that Hinds County bank on my scanner now and just see if anything pops up without encryption. Any thoughts on what kind of device I need to decrypt Hinds counties channels? I know I could spend hundreds of dollars to make it happen, but I just don't think I'm that committed yet.

Guys, sorry to drudge up an old post, but...

I have just purchased my first scanner, a Uniden BC346XT (analog scanner), and I am in the process of trying to get it set up for statewide reception. I have used the trunking information on the database for the Jackson Metro area law enforcement agencies. I have set it up to the best of my abilities and after playing with it I am now picking up a Ridgeland Dispatch, but only getting chopper noise.

Is the Central MS Network now a digital system that my scanner can't pickup? Or have I botched programming the scanner?

Any help you can give is appreciated.

There ARE analog tg's on the CMRTRS! Hinds EOC, DPW, A few Madison/Ridgeland CH's. It is NOT a fully digital net. It is a Motorola ASTRO 4.1 "mixed mode". All LEA's are digital.

Good converters for Digital?

Since I have three scanners that won't accept digital channels, anyone know of a good converter tool that will let me listen to digital? I hate to go buying a new scanner since I already have three. It seems wasteful.

Sorry the only way to monitor the digital talkgroups is to iether spend in the 1,500 range for an Motorola radio and get it programmed, or.. buy a digital capable scanner... And in the next few years if you want to hear MHP, or any State of MS agency.. You WILL need a digital capable 700 MHz capable trunk tracking scanner.. in the 500 range...

Progress and interop.. and a lil ole 'cane named Katrina... convinced MS to upgrade thier ancient VHF systems to a state of the art fully digital 700 MHz statewide Motorola ASTRO-25 trunked radio system. There are still several areas that will be hearable without digital ability on a scanner... In the Jackson Metro- Hinds County EOC/VFD's on the CMSRTRS, Rankin County is still on an analog Motorola TRS, Copiah County is all analog VHF Hi conventional, Simpson and Yazoo if you have an LTR capable scanner... The Railroads, both CN/IC and KCS... Jackson/Evers International Airport.. still analog EDACS TRS.... As well as the Aircraft. Oh and Jackson DPW... Analog on the old EDACS TRS.. And MS DOC's EDACS system which is still analog with a little AEGIS Encryption. The following are currently digital... JPD, JFD, HCSO, MCSO, RPD, RFD, CPD, TPD, MPD, UMCPD, MSSCP, Holmes CC PD, MFD, AMR on the TRS, though AMR still uses the VHF Hi analog too, and they are also on the Rankin County TRS, Vicksburg/Warren County also digital on the SAME type of Motorola TRS as Hinds, and Madison Counties, and may be joining that net.... Agencies that will be going to MWIN- MHP, MBN, MF&A, MDWF&P, MDOT, MEMA as well as both MEMA and MDWF&P having satellite radio systems currently... MDOC will also join on the MWIN, but will phase out thier statewide EDACS TRS. MSU, UM, and USM will at the very least have TG's on the MWIN. JSU PD uses both the old Jackson EDACS, and the CMSRTRS. On the EDACS they are analog, digital on the Motorola.

Jackson International PD Still Analog?

I have Jackson Airport Police programmed properly on the old EDACS system, but I never hear them talk. Is there a special trick? I've even driven near the airport thinking it might be a low power antenna, but not any difference. Maybe I've programmed something wrong or maybe they don't have much going on.

The J/EIA system has a small area coverage zone for the local airport area.. and a beam of coverage that extends to Hawkins Field. In most areas of J Town you can't get the signal, unless you have a awesome antenna. The Woodrow Wilson Corridor is the best area I found when I lived there and worked for Wackenhut doing security for a Chemical Plant there right outside HWK. I lived on Milsaps, and could monitor it all the way to work. The MDOC EDACS covers Jackson pretty good as there is a restitution center, and a DOC facility downtown near the Salvation Army. I used to watch the DOC Apprehension Teams setting up raids there, and the Parole/Probation Units in and out all the time... Only heard two AEGIS Encrypted tg's. Oh btw.. the Airport EDACS system has been rebanded, so i am not sure if the LCN's are still right...

You are correct in saying that the Jackson Airport has been rebanded. Over a year ago, the system was up-graded to site Pro and Pro-voice digital. As Far as MDOC goes, there current maintenance contract runs thru 2013 so don't expect to hear them on MWIN any time soon. Also, a contract for maintenance was let last week for Hinds County TRS to a company called AIRWAVES. This contract is worth almost $2,000,000 over the next couple of years. This is a one man operation and, I wonder how long it will really take before someone figures out they got the royal screw. I heard Airwaves has a family member on the board for Hinds County.
