I think a lot can be told about a feed (or specifically about a city/agency) by looking at the times the feed is most busy.

I live in a college town of 45,000+ full time residents and 30,000+ college students (of which about 1/3 live in town-on campus, 1/3 live in town-off campus, and the final 1/3 commute from out of town).

I find it telling about my town that the majority of the hits on my feed are in the night time hours (especially between midnight and 3am). I believe this is the students finding the feed (especially from Scanner911 iPhone app) and listening to it at night (maybe when they leave the bars- which close at 2am).

Does anyone else notice specific times that their feed is more active than normal (besides when you have Status Alerts- or News Alerts) and can you tell why? Does this tell any clues about your town/city/agency?

My feed is a campus police department, and it gets the most listeners in the late morning and early afternoon on weekdays. I find this odd because that's when it's by far the least interesting.

Never. :p

Most listeners ever was 7.

Ken,

Hang in there- I don't have a very active feed either, but I could care less (my main purpose was to provide a way to listen to my hometown at work- 50 miles away). If you want more exposure you could always send people links to your audio feed. I've sent the link to a few friends, the local newspaper editors, and local hams. I think my most users ever was 13 or 14 (and I was probably one of those). But when something exciting happens (one day it will I imagine) it will make all the difference in the world that my feed was up (audio archives!).

My feed seems to have the most listeners between 1600-0200. That is the busiest time for most every police department, and my "listenership" reflects that.

Anytime the weather gets bad plus the winter months it is busier due to space heaters wood stoves then fall and spring with woods fires.

My feed covers a lot of US 127 in Michigan probley close to 90 miles so you can hear a lot of bad accidents.

My feed is the local boring airport. I don't expect many users.

I might put up a feed from SUNY Albany Campus soon.

My more active feed has peak listeners between about 8pm and 2am. Most I recall seeing was 63 during an event, but numerous 50+ days including multiple hours on those days.

Average is 10-15 listeners, 24 hours per day, with peak times averaging 20-30. (all estimates)

Would be nice to see other providers' stats. Probably just causes competition, but might facilitate some cooperation as well.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95-3/20.2.011 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

mine for some reason peaks around 11pm aust eastern daylight time everyday. Usually its getting quiet in the area my stream covers at that time(it covers about one sixth of new south wales). It however builds up slowly from about 2pm aest onwards. Peaks around 45 listeners or at least used to but generally around 5 to 20 listeners most of the time

I hope it wouldn't cause competition (if that were the case someone could open many tabs and take each one to their own feed- which is lame). I think that each provider has certain, specific reasons for providing their feed. I hope the global goal of all the providers is to provide access to a specific agency/areas radio communications, and to eventually provide a feed for every county, with every agency (that would be the day).

My goals prior to the feed were:

1. to be able to listen to my hometown at work, 50 miles away.

2. to provide access to friends (most of whom have since moved from my feeds location) a little access to the feed of a town they know.

3. offer a public service (yes, a public service) by supporting a feed that can reach many different people.

Remeber that when an event occurs that many people will want to listen to, is the wrong time to try to setup a feed. We won't know how much others need it, until they really need it.

In response to the 'competition' statement I didn't mean opening tabs for more listeners. I was thinking about modifying feeds to draw listeners from other active feeds.

Ah- I see. That could easily be handled by the LAAs not allowing similar feeds (or make sure that certain feeds are for specific beats).

Most of the time i just have 1-2 people listen to my feed it seems to be during the day time.

I also have my feed on IBN but i never really have anyone listen to it there i have more listeners on RR.

It might be due to the fact that i only cover FD's and no Police so it can be a dead or active feed.

The most listeners i have had on the feed here is around 5.

But i just use it for myself when i am out of town so i can listen to the FD i use to be on.
