As new "firmware" becomes available does "GRE" update the "PSR 500" with the new "firmware" before shipping it to the "dealers"?

I want to buy the "PSR 500" with all of the "firmware updates" already installed.

Thanks

when i bought my psr-500 i was told by scannermaster that it was not updated.i was told that it could also take several month's to get one that was updated.they have to replace their current stock first.at the time they were contemplating doing that as a service.i don't know if they have done that.note:this comment only dealer specific for scannermaster.note:although not affiliated with any radio dealer,i am a satisfied scannermaster customer.

Eventually yes, but not until new stock comes from the factory. I wouldn't worry too much about that though, the update process is pretty quick and painless.

I have never had an issue with updating the firmware, the firmware software is very clear on the steps needed to perform the update, it will not proceed unless the steps are followed.

Not to mention that GRE is updating the firmware on a regular basis so even if you get a radio with the most current firmware today, sooner or later you will have to install the firmware yourself at one point.

yes they will update it...
those models that were factory 1.6 (for example) have an "F"

uP Appl Ver:F1.6 - means its a factory 1.6
uP Appl Ver:U1.6 - means its an upgrade to 1.6

Worse case you have to update it, takes me 5 minutes at the most.
Its one of the easiest scanners to update with their almost fool-proof instructions.

My PSR-600 came with 1.1 or 1.2 I think. Was quite old.
Firmware updates are pretty trivial, I wouldn't worry about it.

Just purchased a new PSR 500 from Lentini Communications via their Ebay auctions, and it came with the newest firmware already in the scanner. Good price too, $499 shipped. Fantastic service!

Easy to update

Just got my PSR-500 from TheRadioCompany (see other post on discounted pricing for members of this forum).

Firmware was out of date, but as someone who has never picked up a scanner before, I was able to update it in a matter of minutes; piece of cake... Great company to work with!

Enjoy!

Updated: I didn't write down the actual versions, but it looked like 1 minor rev back. Since I was planning to upgrade it before playing with the scanner, I didn't pay too close attention. Still a very easy process.

I got mine on 09.22.08 from HAM Radio Outlet and it is: UP Appl Ver U1.6
DSP App Ver U1.3
DSP Voc Ver F1.0
I assume this means it was upgraded, but it came out of the box like this.
What does the other info above mean? I have barely begun to figure this
out, and I've been monitoring over 20 years. Win500 is a challenge too,
but thank goodness (Don) that it's available. Also the people on this website
are an amazing help!

When I had to return mine and get a new unit direct from GRE, they sent me an updated one.

I hope that doesn't mean that we both got 'rebuilt' units in a new box!
Mine does have a tiny blemish in the corner of the display, but I wont hassle with returning it. I know I should (and will) ask this in another forum, but the last time I had mine on, the signal meter and the T symbol were fluttering. Does yours do this. I didn't have time yesterday to play.
