Sentinel

I'll add that we have several projects for the engineers, and having them write, rewrite, then re-rewrite Sentinel would be a waste of their time and our company's money. As I posted previously. I am also eagerly awaiting Sentinel. Programming by hand is a breeze. A hot, humid, sticky, sweaty breeze.

This reminds me of the days when I was Network engineer, as soon as marketing says one word, everybody goes into a frenzy until the "New" thing comes out. Why say anything until it's ready? It just stirs up the bottom, and we all know whats at the bottom!

But when the scanner division needs to be smarter, those panic words become more scrutinized. I'm sure the end result will be better than the current RC1 and when sentinel is released we can still have Arc x36HP pro to fall back on.

I have already purchased the DMR update for $50 and I believe I have read everything that is need to know. If not I just havn't stumble across it yet because it seems all of this is just scattered all over the Uniden forums. I realize Sentinel isn't updated with DMR yet.... still waiting. Scanner just shows ProVoice updatable with DMR update missing in which that will be addressed with the updated Sentinel. Folks have mentioned that the scanner can be programed by hand. That confusing to me. Also the spreadsheets Upman sent out is password protected..... what's the password? lol

I guess it's just better if I wait for updated Sentinel to enjoy the DMR before I confuse myself to death. lol

The password protected file isn't the spreadsheets, it's the beta firmware. The password is in the .txt file that is downloaded with firmware.

Looks like everyone missed one of the original points. Butel is already supporting DMR with his program for the 436 and the 536. Isn't it ironic that a third-party vendor can support DMR, but that Uniden can't?

I,like many others here, are patiently waiting for Uniden to finalize DMR so that I can begin to use it with my own radios. Yes, I know that a new Sentinel will not be available until that happens, but if a third-party vendor can support it, and then make the necessary adjustments in their program as Uniden makes progress with DMR, Uniden should give some thought to doing that as well.

Right now, I either have to get involved programming manually, or buy the Butel program to make things easier, I prefer to wait for Uniden, and I think that it's fine that Uniden gets a little reminder every once in a while that there are some of us out here waiting for Uniden to get it all together.

Thanks for your encouragement Alex. I suspected that I would take some flack from some of the "regulars" early on in this thread, but I feel vindicated. Based on the number of hits this thread has received, and the input from Paul at Uniden, there is quite an interest in finalizing the project.

Now we don't want Uniden to rush anything out before it is completed to the best of their ability. But amazingly, last night, while listening to a QSO on 75 meters, the subject of Uniden and DMR came up. And quite to my surprise, I also heard the subject discussed on the 440 band and on one of the NJ GMRS repeaters in the wee hours of the morning. As one of the 440 operators reminded the group, every once in the while, Uniden needs a little "tickle" to get things moving.

So there are a lot of folks out there patiently waiting for the final DMR firmware to be released, and the accompanying Sentinel program to be updated. And now I'm sure that will happen in short order.

Thanks to all who lent their support, including Marshall (KE4ZNR) and Paul from Uniden for participating in this thread.

When is the UPDATE available for DMR ? coming out to download ?

The beta/pre-release candidates typically come out every Friday and have their own thread which is kind of hard to miss:

http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/336302-dmr-rc-3-new-sentinel.html

If you mean "when will it come out of beta and be available to download like normal updates", that has been asked a few dozen times already and people should know better since Uniden has always said that they won't mention an update until it's ready. I don't know why people keep asking that since the answer has already been posted.

Yea, but you live in Texas where that's normal... I live in Alberta where it's a dry breeze, might be -40 but we still have a warm dry breeze.

Likely a silly question. I purchased the DMR key. But I can't find a "Upgrade DMR" under the Upgrades menu of my 436. How do I utilize the beta version?

I wish they would hire you to write for them.

+1 (ARE YOU LISTENING, UNIDEN?? )

PROSCAN IS WONDERFUL / STABLE / EASY TO USE / POWERFUL / INTUITIVE /
REMOTE IP CONTROL IS OUTSTANDING / ETC...

Judging by the way that Uniden has handled the factory defects in both "x36hp" products (and
wifi - and siren - and - and - and - -- the list is just too large. Plus the fact that I really hate buying
something from a company that doesn't take such problems as I would expect. )

I would venture to say that they would never pay a dime more than required to make their customers
happy or satisfied. So, i'm guessing that they will have a working and stable version of Sentinel software by the time that they release a new scanner model. (and, of course ... just a guess -- but I'd venture to say that it would probably NOT support any new models until the FOLLOWING generation would be developed and so forth...)

The way that I feel about Uniden's customer service / repair service & lack of extending their warranty to cover their defective units, etc... is the same way I feel about ObamaScare. Kind of telliing... :(
