I just got my Yaesu Ft60r and turned it on and it said it had 7.2 volts out of 7.2 volts. I never charged it. Is that normal. Was it ever charged before it bought it? It was new when i got it. Should i go ahead and charge it?
I just bought a Kenwood TH-F6A and the battery was charged when I got it. It read 2/3 bars on the BATT meter, and after playing with it a little, I did give it a full charge. I purchased it brand new from AES in Milwaukee.
Oddly enough, the manual indicated that the battery would NOT be charged for safety purposes.
I think it was the Thales site that had some battery info and they suggested that the batteries be stored at around 2/3 or 3/4 charge if they are the Li Ion type. Storing them totally discharged will ruin them.
All new rechargable batteries should be given a 14 hour uninterrupted charge before the first use,
This goes for the battery in your cordless phone, cell phone, video recorder, radio, anything.
The battery will last so much longer if you do this.
The "ready" light will come on after an hour or two. Ignore it during the first charge, and leave it on the charger overnight, uninterrupted.
