Where do Nassau County NY, Police dispatchers broadcast from ?

I'm a scanner enthusiast here on Long Island in New York, and i listen to the Nassau P.D. alot. Specifically in my area (8th) Precinct). I always wondered where the dispatchers broadcast from ?.

Also, Is the location also the point of broadcast to the cars ? Where the antenna's are. Because its strange that i get booming reception from the 1st & 7th, but right here in the 8th, my reception struggles on the 2nd and 8th frequency. I have a very good portable (Yeasu VX-3) with the highest rated antenna (Diamond SRH77CA). So i figure it must be a location issue. Some area's the 8th is booming as well at times. Are the broadcasts line of sight ?... alot of ?'s , sorry....My gratitude to anyone with info..... Pete

The NCPD dispatchers "broadcast" from police headquarters at 1490 Franklin Avenue in Mineola.

Are the broadcasts line of sight?

Yes, all UHF transmissions are basically line-of-sight.

The dispatchers are underground, below PD HQ (actually the parking lot). Firecom is also down there.

Nassau uses many remote receive and transmit repeater sites throughout the county. Check the FCC or this site, their transmit locations are public knowledge. They have a site in the Bethpage area.

FYI, NCPD is in the process (as we type) of building a new 500mhz digital trunked radio system. The current system wont be around too much longer.
