To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all, i'm wanting to mount a scanner antenna on my 1990 Jeep Wrangler. With a non metalic roof its going to be hard to use a mag mount on the roof. Where should i put one. I dont really want to drill holes but if need be i will. Also any suggestions on a type of antenna.
Thanks
Scott

What about bracket mounting on your spare tire mount? Or the mirrors? I think the 90 Wrangler had a tube support on the rear view mirrors.

Scott,

Got to http://www.arizonarockyroad.com/pages/1/index.htm for some ideas on both spare tire mounts and front fender mounts. We used to have a few of these with the fiberglass hardtops in the early 90's and the radio shop mounted the UHF antenna in the center of the fiberglass hardtop with four runs of metallic tape to make a ground plane. For just casual monitoring, a spare tire mount will fine.

Hope I can help!

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. I have 3 antennas mounted on my Jeep, One on the spare tire rack( 3ft fiberglass whip ) running to my scanner. And 2 Mag mount on my back bumper hooked to a splitter running to my CB. all 3 work extremely well! I went on ebay and found all the mounts for a Jeep wrangler I could ever dream of. I'm thinking of buying one that goes on the fender.right next to the back hinges where the hood opens up. nice and clean looking. all my antennas came from radiocrap(shack) seeing as how Im young and not made of money but all still work well. hope i could help alittle

Go front fender. There isn't enough continuous sheet metal anywhere else on the vehicle to provide an adequate ground plane.

I wonder if anybody's experimented with installing chicken wire in fiberglass caps. I have a spare cap for my K5 Blazer, I might goof off with that this summer to see if I can get an awesome HF mobile setup running.

I have a no groundplane type (forgot make) fiberglass dual band mounted on the driver's side rear corner. I just drilled into the body and attached an NMO L bracket. There really wasn't any other choice for that spot.

I have another NMO L behind the third brake light. I have the 800 Mhz antenna installed there.

The third is a 3/8" heavy duty L bracket installed on the ousdide of the spare tire/rear gate stop bracket. I use a 108" whip or hamstick on that for HF. I've made 20 meter contacts mobile with no problems.

Antenex makes NGP NMO antennas though not dual-band like yours. I have both VHF and UHF for my TJ.

I started with the Arizona Rocky Road mount but eventually went to a Jeeperman tire carrier and mount to a jerry can holder.

Typical places for a wranger is using an L bracket off the taillight, Off the tire rack, off the hood or off the fender.
