Hallo,
this is a nice forum, im new here and im not really sure if this is the right place to put this message here :

but im looking to buy a second hand ICOM IC-R30 scanner.
I have a lot of icom material, like the IC-9700, the ID-52e, 3 times the ID-5100 and then the IC-R6, IC-R20....and a few more.
But im so crazy about the IC-R30....can someone help me please finding one at a reasonable price ?

Thank you.

The best suggestion is to check the For Sale ads here (at Classifieds) and other venues like Eham. There are retailers that take trades and then sell them but the R30 is kind of a niche product.

Of course there is always eBay. Wherever you buy be aware of the many scams out there, if you use PayPal never use Friends and Family unless you really know the seller, there is no protection with F&F.

Since the R30 is discontinued, and being the best handheld receiver on the market, I doubt you will find one at a reasonable price. If I ever decided to sell my backup R30, probably sell it for $850 ish (just guessing at this time). That could change IF Icom was coming out with a R30 replacement. Doubt it though. Would be nice though.

I wonder if the (supposedly) upcoming R15 might either be an option or a catalyst for R30's coming up on the secondhand market? There is a thread on the R15 here so keep an eye on that.

I have thought about an R30 to go with my R8600 but just haven't found the justification for it. Heck, I really don't need the R8600, other than it's "cool factor" I get pretty much the same performance from my IC-705 plus I can transmit, all at half the price.

I sold my 705 to fund the 8600. Used for scanning HF band. The 8600 does allot more except talk. In the summer, I always take my R30 on camping trips. The P25 on the R30 is fantastic. Programmed my entire state of P25 police. Picks up P25 better than my old 436 did. Sold the 436.

I ordered one off of eBay from a Japanese seller. Nearly $1000. Fingers crossed it turns out decent.

Not selling it, sorry

Not in the market for one.

Already own two IC-30s, purchased a second new unit from HRO when Icom announced it was being discontinued.
Also have a DV10 (with all its attendant issues).

Just wondered if nah95 was buying a secondhand unit or if it was an old new stock unit.

I was wondering about the genuineness of those.

You occasionally see old new stock of radios long discontinued on ebay.

Its how I picked up a new IC-R8500 about a year ago, there were a whole bunch of new units available and the asking price was about its original selling price.

It did appear to be new and unused when I received it.

I have several concerns about buying "Grey Market" from sellers in the Far East:
  • If it non-functional Icom will likely not honor the warranty, and perhaps refuse to repair it even if you pay for it.
  • It might be configured differently; perhaps a digital mode used here might not be included, frequency ranges might be different or certain features and accessories not included or incorrect for North American use.
  • It could be a clone, fake or otherwise illegitimate.
It might end up being just fine or it could have issues. If the latter there is nothing much you can really do about it. At least buying a used one from a North American seller provides a bit more protection (from the credit card company or PayPal if so used), legal recourse if it isn't made right to you and repairability if needed.

Your points are valid ones and should be considered before any ebay purchase etc.
I always take note of the seller's rating, it's a pretty good indication of their reputation.

The seller of my IC-R8500 was in the US and the unit did appear to be unopened/unused, all the accompanying accessories were in their sealed pouches etc.

Posted a WTB on the classifieds here on RR and got a quick response this past month . Otherwise I was going to pick up this one in the US on eBay >. R30 for 850.00

Fwiw I did buy an R10 from that eBay seller this past year and everything was as described and shown etc.
