where to find a good audio mixer?

as many on this board know, i like to broadcast the periodic scanner feed or shortwave radio feed on the internet...

lately, i have run into a couple problems:

1) a good audio codec that will allow tight compression (10kbps?)

2) a way to "mix" 2 audio sources into one laptop so that they are both split to LEFT and RIGHT channels for the listeners...

i once touched on the technical aspect of this on the shoutcast.com forums, but it seemed you needed an advanced souncard or mixer to pull this off.

anyone out there got suggestions on vendors or equipment that can help me acheive this?

Unless I'm not following what you want to do, you shouldn't need anything more than a simple cable to do this - every sound card I've ever seen with a line-level input takes left and right channels. On a laptop, it would be a stereo mini (1/8") connector for the input, so you'd just need a cable that splits that out into two separate lines, someting easy enough to find at rat shack...

The tricky part is getting the impedance levels from your audio source(s) matched to the input of the sound card. If your source has a line level/tape recorder/auxiliary output, you're probably good to go.

I'll leave out the whole discussion about ground loops and computer RFI interfering with the receivers...
