Pulled the dual bander out to check something out for a possible go box out o a ammo can. Just an idea at this point. Got the mic out and noticed the ptt stuck in the transmit position. Took it apart and got it to work again but its sticky. Downloaded the manual to do a little research on it and the mic part number is mc-45dm/45dme. Looked up trying to find details on it to maybe find something else to use on it but most of what I pulled up is misleading for sale back in 2014 and older. It appears to be an eight pin (possibly a rj45 connection). Is there an equivalent in production that's not gonna cost me an arm and a leg? I've looked up a few and most doesn't have everything that my original has and, since I am still learning, was wondering if some of these cheaper dtmf mics will still work on this unit even if not listed. I might be wrong calling it n rj45 din connection so I've included pictures. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I would recommend Main Trading Company at http://mtcradio.com or Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) at http://hamradio.com. You can use Amazon and I would recommend staying away from eBay. I’ve had some unpleasant purchases in the past of “OEM” products, but each person has their own preference.

Are you wanting to use Kenwood microphones, or are you willing to use compatiblemodels from other companies?

I'll use anything compatible. This Mic has years of cigarette smoke clinging to it on the cord so I can only imagine the inside of the switch.

You can use almost any mic as long as you use the right pin outs for the radio, if you want to keep the functionality of that mic ,you will have to get a direct replacement for it. Have you opened the mic and given it good dose of contact cleaner ? Usually the actual PTT switch is replaceable if it dies ,you should be able to clean it and continue using ,or worst case scenario unsolder the switch and replace it ,there is a Kenwood parts dealer on long island and one in California that you should be able to order the actual part, obviously its gonna cost you silly money to replace the entire mic but it's your money ?
