I'm buying the Larsen NMO 2m/70cm (1/2 wave on 2m version) antenna to listen to VHF high and some UHF in the car. I have been looking at the various trunk lip mounts offered by Diamond, Comet and Larsen. During my research I have found a few that do not like the Larsen mount. Its seems thier mount rusts to quickly. I was wanting input from others on which mount they like to use.

Thanks,
Chad

I have used NMO trunk lip mounts from the following: http://www.comtelcoantennas.com/index.htm

I have had no rust or corrosion issues so far.

Hit the local 2-way shops and see what they offer. I buy all of my NMO parts from local Motorola dealers and I have been using the same NMO mounting brackets on my car since mid-2000 with no problems. I paid $12 each for the kit, it included bracket, 16 feet of quality cable, sealer grease and the RF connector. Not a bad price for quality hardware

I do not have any HAM shops in my town. The closest thing would be Radio Shack. I will have to mail order anything I want.

I know the best place to mount a antenna is on the roof. The truck lid is the only place I'm willing to mount it. I've had good results in the past at this location. I'm just upgrading. I do not want to use mag mounts anymore, and I'm not willing to drill a hole in my roof yet. :)

Thanks to everyone for thier input and links.

Not a ham store, call the PD and ask them where they get their radio work done and go there. A real radio shop will have the stuff that has been proven to stand up to all kinds of weather and abuse.

Thanks for the link. I like the way their mounts look. Small and low profile. Just out of curiosity, have you ever used their antennas?

I have used the dual band VHF/UHF and the 800 Mhz antenna. I originally used a RS mag mount. The VHF/UHF was a great improvement over the RS, but I have found that the 800 Mhz works great on 800 and on the VHF freqs. If you have a need for 800 Mhz, get the NMO for 800 Mhz. IF not, the VHF or VHF/UHF dual band will serve you fine. They are reasonably priced and well worth it. Hope this helps.
