I am looking at getting a Uniden handheld scanner, I am tight on money but won't a handheld scanner bad. So I was looking at these scanners. And wanted you guy's opinions on which one would be the best to get and which one would be the second best to get. I would appreciate it. These are the scanners I was looking at.

the Uniden BC95XLT
the Uniden BC246T
the Uniden BC92XLT
the Uniden B-SC230

I would appreciate you guy's opinions and reviews thanks in advance - Cooper.

Now im leaning toward the BC95XLT, and the BC92XLT which one should I get?

I am debating between the BC95XLT, and the BC92XLT which one should I get? I live in a 800mhz area but both of these are 800mhz radios. There around the same price range I can work with as long as I get a good one. help in picking one would be appreciated. - Cooper

Neither the 95XXT or the 92XLT are trunking scanners. So, even though these can receive 800mhz signals, they would not trunk-track the state DPS system, or any other analog TRS system in your area. Of course, you do have a BCT-15, but do you also want your handheld to be a trunk tracker?. If so, look for eiher a deal on 246, or better yet, a good price on a gently used BR330T. That would give you all the coverage of the 246, plus mil-air (which you also have on the BCT-15).

If the trunk-tracker is not an issue, I'd lean toward the BC95XLT. See this thread.

the trunktacker isn't a real big deal unless I can find a good deal on a trucktracker handheld under $180 bucks. See most the area around me and my town run on 800mhz i pick up there trunked radios on my bct15 but i still pickup the same exact thing without i-call though in my town and area just not the only trunked stuff which is nothing within 80 miles or more of my area. i took my 350 to Tenn with me this year and pick up alot of stuff not everything i could of if i had brought my bct15 but i still got a good bunch.

A day or two ago, there was a 246 in the for sale forum in the $160 range. You should be able to find a used 246 in your price range if you're patient. The 330 would probably be outside your window. It's a better scanner, in my opinion (I own both), & has a higher iniitial list price new. Since it's discontinued now, the supply will begin to diminish as well.

Betweeen the 92 & 95, if the trunk tracking factor is no issue (and you indicate it is not), I'd lean toward the 95. The temporary lockout & Close-Call Do Not Disturb are improved features over the 92.

What about the RS:528? I hate the fact that it doesn't come with a ac adapter but between the 528 and the 95 which one would be better.

The 528 is a trunk tracker, but as you note, does not come with an ac adapter. Looking at the specs, it has a 1000 channel capacity vs 200 for the BC95XLT (which does come with an ac adapter). Neither scanner comes with a pc cable (optional accessory, extra cost, as is software). I haven't used either one. Several other members that have a 528 seem to like it. Biggest knock is that the 528 does not have text tags & does not allow for pl tones or dcs codes. But, from what I see in the specs, the 95XLT doesn't either. That's another reason, if it were me, I'd be looking for a deal on a 246, just for the text tags & the pl/dcs ability. However, you know your area much better than I do.
