Anyone here with the new Pro-106 who is using the RS power adapter.

Can you tell me which power adapter tip it requires ?

My Pro-96 uses the "B" tip.

I guess the tip for the 106 will be a "B" too.

I plan to purchase the following RS A/C & D/C Cig. adapters for the 106 :

A/C Adapter - RS Cat.#273-1768 - 9V/800mA - $18.99 - (Power tip "B" ?)
D/C Cig. Adapter - R/C Cat.#273-1863 - 9V/1000mA - $22.99 - (Power Tip "B" ?)

Plus the following accessories for the 106:

Scanner to scanner Clone Cable - R/S Cat.#42-2420A - $3.99

800 Mhz Antenna - R/S Cat.#20-283 - $19.99

USB Programing Cable - R/S Cat.#20-047 - $32.99

And of course the compatible Starrsoft programming software.

The only other thing I can think of that I would want/need, will be a nice protective leather case. Bit I don't see any available yet.... hopefully, it won't be too long before someone makes one for the 106.

What do you think ? ( I am hoping to use the F&F coupon for the entire purchase.)

That looks like a "mono" (two conductor) cable. The PRO-106 requires a "stereo" (three conductor) cable for cloning between units.

DonS,

Thanks for the heads up on that.

I thought it would take the same cable used for the Pro-96.

I was wrong.

I'll have to go back to searching the RS website for the proper cable.

Thanks again.

If you read the RR wiki on the 106, you would know that it is the "C" tip for the adapters. But, the "B" tip more than likely will work. It certainly does for my 96 and 97. :)

N8IAA,

Thanks for the info.... I seem to remember when the 96 first came out, I think RS called fro the "C" tip but many people complained it was jot tight and kept coming out or losing the connection.

Many 96 owners suggested using the "B" tip as it still fit/worked and was a much more secure fit.

I guess I can get the "C" tip and hope for the best and if it doesn't work or fit securely, than I can always buy a "B" tip. Hmm.. or should it be the other way around ?

Thanks, Tim

I have been using the "C" tip in my 96 and 97 with no problems, but the "B" tip works fine also.

I bought the charger(s) and BOTH tips, the "B" & "C" and they both fit and seem to work.

So.... I'll use the one per the WIKI, which is the "C".

I'm using the same power adapter from my pro-95 for the 106? Could this be a problem? and you also asked about a leather case at the top of the thread, I contacted ScannerMaster yesyerday and was told they are "Working on one for the 106 as we speak" : ) Should be ready mid January..."SHOULD BE"

Both the B and the C adaptaplugs have an I.D of 1.7mm, but for what ever reason my C plug goes intermittent if I move my PSR500 around at all. The B plug gives me no intermittent problems. So I use the B plug. The O.D of the B is 4.0mm and the C is 4.75mm according to spec. The internal contact construction of the two plugs looks a little different-maybe that is the difference.

The GRE adapter is rock solid all the time.

I could not use my AC adapter from my Por-95 as it was 9V 300mA and the 106 requires at least 500mA. But if you're just talking about the power tip, then you should be fine.

Ahhhhh...I never read that but your 100% right...woops? Im glad I didnt damage the 106 by using it too much but it did work using the 300mA in the pro-106, I sure wont be using it again because there must be a reason right?? I wonder if I had continued what might have happened? Anyone ?

Most likely, nothing much. The 300mA adapter gets a little warmer than the 500mA adapter. But unless the backlight is on all the time and the volume is turned up to maximum, it's unlikely that the current drain actually exceeds 300mA. In any event, if anything bad happens, it happens to the adapter, not the radio.
