Which Scanner to keep?

I went overbord this week and bought a used PRO-2096 (in perfict condition ) and a new Uniden BC796D . The Pro 96 cost $400 and the Uniden cost $520. Since I bought one used and the other new but both on EBAY
niether one is returnable. I really can not afford two digital scaners so I will have to sell one of them. The BC796D has a one year waranty but
the audio is lower than the PRO96. I will have to buy the Computer Cable
to program any digital systems into the BC796D.
Since APCO 25 is not being used in Trenton N.J currently I do not know wich scanner I should keep.
Please help me make this dicission.

These two scanners are pretty closely matched in capabilities (both APCO25 Phase1 compatable, etc). I don't own a PRO-2096 but I do own a BC-796D so I may be biased but....

The 796D covers the MIL Air band. The 2096 doesn't. That's why I chose the 796D.

Why do you have to buy a computer cable to program digital systems in the 796 ?

You cna download "Win96" for a 30 day trial version and pay $30.00 for it. It will unlock the Mil-Air Band and let you program everything off your computer. The 796D has more computer based fetures if I recall. ie computer control for scanning. It all depends how you wnat to use your scanner.

You don't HAVE to buy a cable to program digital or anything else into the 796. If you want to use software to program you have to buy a serial cable since the base/mobile Uniden scanners don't come with the cable.

I have both the 796D (two of them actually) and a Pro-2096. I only got the 2096 because I do a lot of traveling, and the V-Folders allow me to put a huge amount of trunked systems in the scanner. However, for day-to-day scanning I perfer the larger display and ease-of-use of the 796D.

If it makes any difference to you, most of my monitoring is public safety, and I don't listen to MilAir.
