Do not buy the keys from a reseller - they are marked up. You can get them directly from Uniden for less.

No need to necessarily buy any of them off the bat either, they can be added at any time. Check out the database for your area and see what might be marked down as using DMR or NXDN, and if it is of interest to you, maybe consider it.

You will most definitely not need the ProVoice upgrade - it's a format that's seldom still in use, going away, and no one in your state is utilizing it.

Don't pay those inflated prices at a dealer. Get your scanner first, then take your time to decide which upgrades you want. A very easy process to register your scanner at my.uniden.com and purchase the upgrade keys there. Just takes a few minutes to install at home. Get them direct from Uniden at these prices...

DMR = $60
NXDN = $50
ProVoice = $50
Waterfall Key = $20.00

It depends on what you want to listen to, but if you only want to monitor public safety it looks like all of them in your county are only using FM and P25, so in that case, you shouldn't need any upgrades.

Unless you intend on traveling & monitoring any of the systems listed below you need not bother with the ProVoice upgrade. The mode has long been EOL'ed so I wouldn't anticipate any new PV systems coming online. Also worth noting that talkgroups ID'ed as mode "D" carry ProVoice traffic. Mode "A" talkgroups are analog and can be monitored with no PV upgrade needed. Although not very common, mode "M" talkgroups are mixed mode (analog or PV). The two "Provoice Exclusive" systems at the very bottom are just that...no analog

I had no idea about the markup on 3rd party resellers for unlock codes, I'll have to check my invoice!
I opted for DMR, NXDN, and Waterfall and I'd do it again without hesitation. NXDN was actually the driver that lead me to purchase an SDS100 because my children's school district at my primary residence is an NXDN system, and when I'm out here in PHL there's a couple of public safety and schools also on NXDN.

Plus the MBTA is already planning on switching from their ProVoice system to a new P25P2 system, so the end is in sight for that system

"The existing EDACS radio will be replaced with an integrated, state-of-the-art wide area Land Mobile Radio-based voice and data network for system-wide use throughout the existing route 128 belt, as well as expanded out to the I-495 areas north, south, and west. The new system will utilize Project 25 Phase 2 trunked technology for voice and data communications."

1: I agree with the others, and get the upgrade keys directly from Uniden. It's much cheaper!

2: I have all 4, in that I bought mine second-hand, with the three original upgrades already added, and I bought the waterfall. I would absolutely recommend getting the DMR and NXDN options, and get the waterfall option if you want to explore a bit (it's fun and can be useful, but not absolutely necessary), and get the ProVoice only if you think you'll be going somewhere that might actually be still using it. (I'd still get it, "just in case", and not to feel like you don't have all this scanner's options available, again, "just in case"..... ;) )
