 I also do not have a 'whistler' branded scanner (yeah, a 668'er), but the posts I have read since joining lately, shows the ultra effort this lady shows the forum customers/community. Kudo's Ma-am
I know this thread is probably dead, but I felt the need to post my thanks and appreciation to Whistler Wendy for doing such a great job here on the forum. I research extensively before I buy, and I have spent a few hours on this forum these past two weeks both lurking and reading and posting a couple of questions, and Wendy's posts, tips, advice, and explanations have helped tremendously in my decision to go with the TRX-1 as my next scanner of choice, ending a 20-year customer loyalty tenure with Uniden. Great job, and I will continue to read your posts, website blog, and any other prose you continue to produce. Thanks much, and a very Merry Christmas to you! You are greatly appreciated!

pdfdems286,
IMO they are two completely different scanners in their operation. I still am more familiar with x36HPs than the TRXs, but find the TRX-1 and 2 to be surprisingly good performing here in radio jungle LA basin. For this reason, I'm making more of an effort to learn EZ-Scan.
Many know from my posts on other threads that the 1095 with a decent outside antenna just totally desensed on me here in Los Angeles (tried two different units) and I returned them. With 1080, less of a problem with desense because using portable handheld antennas, but on weaker P25, decode was really "Donald Duck."
These problems seem to have been resolved with TRX-1 and TRX-2. I can't detect any evidence of desense on TRX-2, even without using anything like a PAR filter. And with weaker P25 (for example, some distant LAPD channels), decode is excellent on both units.
If you are going to be using the 436HP vs TRX-1 mostly portable with an antenna attached directly to radio, the TRX-1 is definitely more sensitive on VHF and UHF. On 800 using RS-800 antenna, 436HP holds it own much better. I actually find it may pick up bit more than TRX-1, but really is a toss up. I still am more comfortable with multiple trunking site system set-ups on x36HPs.
One problem I had with first TRX-1 was it was eating my 2500 Ma Eneloop Pros in a couple of hours. I would turn off scanner, next day batteries were gone. This happened repeatedly. I suspected something up with first scanner and sent it back to Jeff at Ham Station, who replaced it with another unit. The second unit works fine with battery life near 6 to maybe 8 hours.
I have always said that the 436HP and 536HP are best units out there, but the TRX-1 and 2 have provided some great competition. Plus, the audio quality on P25 and DMR is hands down better on the TRXs. I have a lot of NXDN here in LA, so I am waiting for NXDN upgrade on the TRXs. Also loads of DMR, and audio is great.
For a sensitive handheld scanner that you can use the stock or "less of an antenna" and hear lots of VHF and UHF, hard to beat the TRX-1 in my opinion. With good antenna like Diamond 77CA series for VHF/UHF and RS800 for 800, excellent pick up in my opinion.
One final comment. Rich N9JIG posted photos of both units opened. Looks like lot of good shielding. I suspect that has something to do with less desense, but Whistler may have added something else as well.
In short, I think most folks would be happy with either or both the TRX-1 or 2. If you're looking for 3rd party programming and virtual control like ProScan and Butel, then its the 436HP and 536HP. TRX-1 is now becoming my main carry radio these days.
Whistler does have a small app to remotely control the TRX. It's up on their website under Support.
No kidding?I learned something new today.Anyone try the App?
