Whistler Copy Error

I have (3) Whistler ES-1098 scanners. I use the same program with the same CDAT_V folder(s) for each scanner. With one scanner, I get "Error Copying PL004.DAT" with the other scanner I get "Error Copying PL012.DAT" and with the last scanner I don't get any Copy Error message. I simply click OK for the two with the Copy Error message and they finish programming with no other issues. All three scanners seem to work fine but I'm afraid I may be missing something with the two that display the Copy Error message. I don't understand why there are two with different error codes and one without any error code yet all three have the exact same program. Can anyone define what these PLXXX.DAT error codes mean and how I can correct them?

Just what it says, error copying that file. Easiest suggestion is to use EZ Scan and re-format and re-copy both library and configuration to the SD card. If that doesn't work you may need to replace the SD cards as @gh6406 said, they do wear out often.

OK. Thanks. I realize it's an error copying but any idea what the PLxxx.DAT file is?

It is one of the data files that the scanner reads, it is contained in the CDAT folder which contains all of the scanner's operating options, conventional frequency, and trunked system information.

PL files are the scanlists. I constantly get errors when programming using a USB cable but never when pulling the SD card out and using it directly on the PC.

Just format the SD card and reprogram it. I've used several different brands and sizes and those problems are independent of the actual SD card, it's some sort of write error that occurs when using USB. The actual SD card should never wear out due to too many write cycles in a scanner.

if you want EXACT clone of a whistler scanner, then use the archive and restore from archive in ezscan...this clones the settings and configuration and everything else.

FWIW, the only time I get errors like those are when I'm doing an update after cleaning out my recorded transmissions. It happens every time. If I update my scan lists without first removing any recorded transmissions, I don't receive any errors.

I'm removing the Micro SD card from the scanner each time.

I have the same issues with the recordings. It's always some recordings that have file errors and usually Windows can clean them when it checks the file structure but sometimes the files are "stuck" and only reformatting helps. It has something to do how the scanners interface to the SD cards works, it's too slow and probably creates some buffer overflow issues. The TRX-1 have a much faster SD card interface and I program it using a USB cable and there's never any problem with that or its recorded files.

I actually left out one piece of information: It happens with my TRX-1.

I didn't catch this thread was about 1098 issues. Sorry for the hijack.

You have to be careful when clearing out recording files if you do that manually. It's an AR INDEX.DAT file in the folder that keeps track of all the recorded files. If that information in the file doesn't match the recording files in the folders then it will pop up an error message. What are the exact message you get?

Its similar to what the OP received - "Error Copying PLxxx.dat" and then the copy aborts.
