It needs a new jack where the AC Adapter plugs in. Part of the AC Adapter plug is stuck in the jack and I'm unable to get it out. The adapter broke and came apart when I tried to remove it from the jack. The scanner suddenly stopped working yesterday [I couldn't power it up], so there could be other damage, too.

:( Just so you know, the plug that inserts into the jack disconnects the battery side so if the plug is partly still in the jack that might be why the scanner doesn't power up (work). Hope you get it fixed if you cannot get all the plug pieces out of the jack without damaging the internals of the radio jack. :(

Will Whistler repair a Radio Shack Pro-197 [the same radio as the Whistler WS1065]? I have a Pro-197 in need of repair.
from Unidens web site
Uniden now repairs other brand model scanners. Service fee: $69.95 plus shipping.
you could check with their repair department

I don't see why Whistler would not repair a pro-197, they can certainly do it, unless they have some kind of administrative policy against it.

The end of the adapter is stuck in the jack VERY firmly. There's no way that I could vacuum it our of the jack. I've tried other ways to remove it to no avail. There is nothing to really get ahold of.

Next step will be to confirm that Whistler won't fix it. Then I will check with Uniden [see above] and G&G Communications.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

I removed the outer and speaker covers from my PRO-197. Looking at the back of the power connector, I was able to insert a thin piece of solid wire into the left hole near to the circuit board and at came through the outside of the jack. You will need to play with the wire to find the hole to the outside. It isn't very large. You may be able to grab the wire with pliers and push the connector out.
