Be specific. When monitoring what mode, at what signal strength, memory channel versus search mode, etc.

My 1040 has always been well-behaved.

Check your internal antenna jack where the conductor is soldered— a lot of handheld scanners whose antennas get bumped will begin to have on again/off again RX as the result.

Are your speaker wires intact?

That happens with all those radios that use that volume/squelch, depending how old and how much its adjusted no doubt. I know at least back to the old radio shack pro 106/197's and read with other earlier models. I recall reading that its a special knob setup that was made just for scanners.

Been brought up in the forums a few times years ago, even if you got a new part it will be static as well eventually. Found this if it helps and dont know how long it had helped ... Static in Volume

A forums search Search results for query: volume knob static
