Thinking about picking up a Whistler WS 1040 for local aircraft communications - including military UHF frequencies. Would like to hear what you all think of the 1040 for aircraft monitoring.

Bad choice for air band, sorry.

If air band is your main focus get a BC125AT.

If you need digital as well, Find a BCD396XT used for a good price, or you may be able to find a BCD436HP for a decent price.

I don't recommend the new SDS scanners if air band is a primary focus.

Good luck.

Thank you for the replies. I have an old Sony WaveHawk that I got off e-bay years ago and it's starting to die. I saw on Whistler's web site refurbished 1040s for $150. I guess I will look for something else.
