Hello all, this is my first time posting in this form and I am in new at this.
Does anyone know how to program a Whistler WS 1040 digital handheld scanner?
I'm from Niagara County New York and was looking for all the local Niagara County digital channels, fire, police etc.
Thank you !! fg1132

Look at whistler's FAQ page. They have 2 step by step guides for manually programming it

These are the 2 Whistler pages that talk about manual programming (all links are in blue);

https://whistlergroup.com/apps/help...ional-frequency-to-ws1040-and-ws1065-scanners

https://whistlergroup.com/apps/help...ly-add-trunking-to-ws1040-and-ws1065-scanners

While it's probably good to know how to do it manually, I suspect most use software to do it. There are 3 packages that are used for this; keep in mind that a 1040 is really a GRE PSR-500 in another box, so anything that applies to that scanner applies here.

Let's start with what we have for Niagara County NY from our database...

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1856

Now to get access to this data, you need a subscription (cheap) and one of 3 applications; ARC500, PSRedit500 and Win500. You will also need to get the scanner and PC communicating thru the USB cable.

Our wiki has an article that will get you started down this path...

Getting Started with your GRE/RS Object Oriented Scanner - The RadioReference Wiki

There are user guides for the scanner - see the Easier to Read manual link at the bottom - as well as for 2 of the 3 packages (ARC500 and Win500) that will help you along. This article also has links to tell you about the subscription, and a page with the links for the 3 packages mentioned above

Take it slow - it's a lot to digest. I would do one TSYS at a time and build as you go

GL...Mike
