I am new to this and I was given this for a gift. I am looking to get the Detroit Fire Dept into the scanner. If any help is out here I would appreciate it. Like I said I am new.

Actually it likely is a 1065 desktop. There are numerous threads on here about how to, so maybe we dont need to re-invent the wheel :)
try these -

Also youtube

- Portable version of yours

Whistler WS1040 Programming a Talkgroup ID

Here's the frequencies you need to put in that are near the top. If properly programmed all you need to do is put the two RED frequencies as those are the control channel frequencies. Talkgroups near the bottom for Wayne county

You will likely find if any other replies will mention simulcast issues since Wayne uses 4 towers and reception can be frustrating on that scanner. Best ones that work perfectly and uses zipcodes to program, but are expensive are the SDS100 or SDS200. They are expensive but only scanners designed to work in simulcast areas that all of S.E. MI is.
look at - Police Scanner Simulcast Reception without an Uniden SDS100 & SDS200

To listen to Detroit radios, you need to focus on the Detroit City Simulcast system. Most of the city's radio traffic is kept to that system, to avoid it overloading everything in the area.
