Hi, Don. I have a Whistler WS1065. It is an excellent scanner. Please explain further what you mean about having problems getting your state and county frequencies. Do you program your scanner manually by entering data one channel at a time, or do you use software? I use the WIN500 program produced by StarrSoft.

Have you visited http://www.radioreference.com to locate your County and agencies you wish to monitor?

If you have limited experience using sophisticated programmable scanners that have many steps ( key presses ) to make for each channel you wish to monitor, you need to remember to remain patient. The WS1065 is one of the best scanners I've ever owned. If you are patient and willing to learn how to use it, I believe you will see for yourself that it is a remarkable scanner.

Please give us a better idea how you presently obtain the frequencies you wish to monitor and also let us know what you are not able to do.

Don, as shown in the wiki below, your assumption that the 1065 is really a PRO-197 in another box is correct. This article will give you links to many resources that will help you get started, but it would really be helpful if we knew precisely where you are (city/state is fine) and what you are trying to hear;

Most folks use software to do the programming, but as shown in the above, there is a manual way to do this with no computer. Using your premium sub to download data really makes a difference in how you get your data to the application.

Sorry for taking so long but im in manitowoc wisconsin and i know on older scanners i could manually enter the frequencies and I could hear all of the police scanners and now it's newer one there's Trucking which I don't know the difference between trunking and just scanning I'm just trying to hear police talk and no Fire EMS share of State Patrol things along those lines pretty much.

Yes i would like to be able to use my computer to download all the frequencies I don't know if that would be the easier route to go or if manually entering them would be the easiest route I'm not sure that's why I'm asking that's why I also paid for the subscription cuz I was reading that if I did that I was able to get all the frequencies in Wisconsin that I wanted I have the win 500 but for some reason I don't know how to set everything up I don't know if anybody on here has TeamViewer and can maybe show me how it's done or if not that's fine but every little bit of information does help and I thank you all for giving me the links and everything to read up on I have a lot to catch up on I see

Hi, Don.

I will look at your County and City frequencies this evening and reply afterwards. If your agencies use conventional channels without trunking, I can arrange to talk via Skype or the telephone and walk you through a few channels. That will give you the confidence to manually program the rest.

I'm not able to tell you how to manually program trunking channels. That is why I use WIN500.

One way or the other, we will get you going.

Don, an easy way to get started is to program in a wildcard for this system.
1- Hit program
2- Select new (f1)
2- Select TGRP (f1)
4- Scroll down to TSYS and choose NEW
5- Scroll left and select P25 AUTO
6- Scroll down to Frequencies and scroll right to select
7- Enter 851.6625 (which is the control channel for your county), then save, then save again, then save
again
You should be able to hear the talkgroups and when you do you can hit store (f3) while they are talking and go back later and give them an alpha tag.
Your system is a simulcast system so depending on your location you may suffer from simulcast distortion but if you set it up like this it will be a raw setup but should get you going.
