The snow beginning late Saturday night over the Front Range and Denver area will continue for the rest of the day. In the Denver area a total of 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected by around 8 p.m.

In and near the foothills and Front Range mountains, the total snowfall by late in the day Sunday is forecast to be from 5 to 10 inches. Even more snow may fall Sunday night into Monday over the higher terrain along the Front Range with a few more inches of accumulation expected.

Mountain areas west of Vail Pass will see slightly more with 6 to 12 inches of snow by Sunday evening. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been posted for areas such as Vail, Aspen, and Snowmass from 6 p.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday because of the expected snowfall.

A second wave of energy associated with this same storm system will bring more snow to Colorado on Monday and Tuesday. While accumulation for Denver and the Front Range will be relatively light, the mountains will see an abundant amount of new snow.

A WINTER STORM WATCH has been posted for most mountain areas west of Vail Pass for 1 to 2 feet of snow from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

A BLIZZARD WARNING has been posted for the San Juan Mountains from 6 a.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday for 1 to 2 feet of snow along with wind gusts to 40 mph which may create white-out conditions.

Long-range forecast models indicate even more snow for the Western Slope and the Colorado mountains through Friday, Dec. 11.

I would say the weather teams were a little off today. Channel 4 saying 5-10 inches for areas above 6000.
