What is white teflon coax? Is it a low-loss cable? Like rg8u or more like rg58 foa attenuation? Plus is it too thick for a trunk lid mount and a bnc connector. What is the diameter?

Its usually lower loss cable for above UHF, but it could also be "plenum rated" cable that is alowd to be run in air ducts.
As fo the loss, you need to know the manufacturer and cable number.

RG is a cable type and not a specific cable with specific attenuation.

What are some "low-loss" coax to use? I was told that RG-58 had a lot of loss, but it seems to be the norm

My system in all RG-6. Reason being Pri-antenna is 300ohm which requires 75ohm coax. The scanner will never know if you have 75ohm cable hooked up. The loss is within reason and rated to 950MHz. Have several other ant's and use TV/VCR type splitters and ABC switches. I live in a strong signal area and never notice any loss with my hook ups. With this set up you have more options for installations. Good Luck, Larry
