• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I got lucky at a county surplus auction. Got one of their surplus Jaguars that had a tag on it that said "uneconomical to repair" but that turned out to be a load of BS. I put a new display board on it and it's good to go. I had to take it to the county radio shop to get them to (1) confirm that the county records show this radio as being disposed of) and (2) deprogram it as the last thing I want or need is an active radio on their system!

The shop won't program the radio as a scanner for me, not because they have anything against the idea, but because their contract with the county specifically prohibits it. They did acknowledge that there is NO law against my getting it programmed somewhere else as long as it doesn't transmit at all.

So I need to get this one programmed. I can provide a very detailed data file for it. I have my M-PA file archived, and it has what I need in the radio with just a few revisions to add.

Who can do this for me?

I'm talking about sending the radio out to someone to get it programmed, with absolutely NO transmit or i-call or login options enabled. Purely receive only. The person who does this will ideally be well known and vouched for by reputable members here as the radio is of course fairly valuable and I certainly don't want to get ripped off, but I'll trust someone who has a good and well known reputation.

I may suggest that you attempt to find a g/e or m/a com radio shop around you, they may be able to do it. Beyond that, I don't know of anyone that wouldn't be under a contract not to do the same for the same reason.

Chris

ps: You may want to look into buying programmer software and a programming cable, and just do it your self, in case you want something diff or new t/g's are added later. You can buy the cables off EBAY and I am sure someone here can direct you to programmer.

ProGrammer software is 1500 bucks. I sprung for Motorola Astro software to the tune of 277 bucks to support my Astro equipment, but 1500 bucks for software for what is essentially a glorified, ruggedized, high performance scanner is very out of the question, and it's likely that as things are now, they wouldn't sell it to an individual. "Homeland security" BS and all.

I would not ask anyone to send me a copy...but I DO wish I had one.

This is somewhat off topic, but whenever I see the "homeland security" thing mentioned I have to laugh and chime in. While I know I am not the only one who feels this way, its comparable to the "gun control" laws. Now that we have so many, the only ones WITHOUT guns are the ones who would normally use them responsibly. The crooks still have them. The only ones without the ability to monitor the local PD is the scanning hobbiest. Anyone who believes a terrorist would not have access to the same radio your police chief carries is just naive or nutz...maybe both.

With the money those organizations obtain, $1500 for software and $2000 for the radio is nothing...

Now for the on-topic part of my message, I too am in the hunt for the programmer software...should anyone have any clues...
