After Dayton I took a short motorcycle vacation. While up on Mt Mitchell in North Carolina I worked a guy on 146.52 using an Icom 92AD with rubber duck on 5 watts to Wilkesboro NC. He said it was around 95 miles.

6 meters AM

50.400 mhz, nice 543 mile contact with W4HLR, 40 over 9 with me. He was working; and beaming to, the northeastern USA. Not bad for the side of his beam?

Worked VK100WIQ special events station the other night at 06:02z with just the rig and its 100 watts and a fan type dipole 30ft off the ground. 10,000 plus miles, my farthest dx station yet. And I was going to take down this dipole and replace it...I don't think so now.

20 Meter Mobile

Worked Belgium and Hungary last evening, and Algeria and Croatia the previous evening while mobile.
Tried to break the pileup to work the Olympics special event station (2O12L), but no joy.

After 35 years of hamming, and trying off and on for many of those years, I finally worked Japan. Yes Japan. I know everybody else in the world has worked them and I was the last guy on the band without a JA QSO but I finally got one on 20 the other morning and exchanged 57 reports. Most of the time I can barely hear them. This was on a horizontal 40 meter full wave loop at 35' with 600 watts.

I also worked that recent Yemen expedition and that was exciting but I had never expected I'd ever work a place that hadn't issued a ham license in over 20 years. Japan was better because I had been trying for so long!

73 and good DX.

I was licensed in 1993, and my first Japanese station was last year, although not as long it was an elusive country fo me as well. Glad you finally were able to snagged one.

Got bored to day, went out to the club station here in Edmonton and worked a whole bunch of stations on 29.600Mhz. Even with some deep fading and QRM from at least one remote base, the best contact was with a guy in Ohio that heard me calling CQ on his scanner with an in-door antenna... Guess when the band is open it is really open. I managed to work a bunch of states/provinces:

Quebec
Ontario
New Brunswic
Ohio
Kentucky
Penselvania
Tennessee
Arkansas
New York
Illinois
Mississippi

Had a few of the guys give me 10+60 signal reports, I was running a 756 Pro3 barefoot with the 4 element beam pointing at an azimuth of about 120 deg. most of the afternoon. When I tried looking for some western US/Western Canada, I kept having to swing the beam back around to work more guys in the Mid-west/Eastern Seaboard.
The FM DX today was the Caymen Islands.
I had a few mobiles in the mix as well.

All in all a great lazy afternoon here in Edmonton

I worked a few guys from KY today on 29.6MHz FM, I do not have the papers I was logging on, they are out in my truck, but if you worked a VA6 station on 29.6MHz this afternoon between 14:00EDT and 17:00EDT it would have been me, as I did not hear another VE/VA6 station. I had a blast on FM this afternnon, I have never seen so much activity on 29.6MHz in all my years being licensed.

I worked CO6LC in Cuba from Chicago today using one watt to my autotuned wire dipolish antenna & Yaesu 817. Easy, armchair QSO on 15 meters.
A minute later, I also partially worked YY4KWB in Venezuela on one watt but he kept getting one letter of my call wrong so I had to go to QRO (increase pwr, I had to look up) to maximum power: five watts. Successful QSO logged after that.
Props to propagation and the other guys' antennas.

I've been having some good luch with QRP cw on 17, 20 and 40. European Russia, Poland, Greece, Israel, Egypt and Nigeria. Some great grey line QSO's also included Australia, Singapore, and Guam. Loads of fun.

I worked LU8EEM near Buenos Aires on Saturday.
24.933MHz USB @ 5 Watts, wire attic antenna.
Comes up around 5500 miles from Chgo, comfortably over 1000 miles/Watt.

He was the only thing I could find on 10-17m. Amazing how that works, nothing except one opening to one guy a continent away.
