The SDRplay got quite a favorable review in the June issue of Spectrum Monitor.
I have the SDRplay, and I'm quite impressed for what it does for the price.

I'm sure you will be pleased with it - do post your feedback! 73, Jon

Got it Monday, looking good.
Glad it's a full USB connector and not one of those *&^ing micro-USBs.
Would prefer an F connector for RF, but not a big deal. Really wish it had 2 RF connectors 1 for 500KHZ to 30 MHZ and the other for 30 MHZ and above. Mainly because I do most of my monitoring remotely. I could rig up a remote switch I suppose.

Haven't really put it through it's paces yet, but no complaints so far.

Looking forward to hearing more. The latest review in the June edition of The Spectrum Monitor The Spectrum Monitor says...

"the SDRplay RSP really impressed me
from the beginning with its low noise floor, variable IF
bandwidth options, and relative ease of installation. Since the
RSP only requires one USB cable for both data and power,
it’s also an ideal portable SDR......If you’re looking for a quality first SDR, or, like me, are
interested in a supplemental or remote receiver that won’t
break the bank, the RSP is just the ticket. And at just $149,
you simply can’t lose."

So far I'm impressed with it. I live here in a rural area a little more than 90 miles South of Portland. There are a couple of FM stations that I have a hard time receiving even with an outdoor antenna. Getting them to come in clearly and in Stereo is difficult. However with the RSP I can set the BandPass to 200k and they come in clearly without hiss and RDS even displays.
Using the same antenna it will give my ICOM 75 a run for the money on SSB and SW.

Latest from the blog, they are trying to close the gap on sdrplay. Guess we just need to wait a little while for this to be done.

I love the sdrplay. It is very sensitive and seems a little better than airspy with noticeably less noise on the same signal. I was surprised to read that the ADC was only 10 bit as the dynamic range is much wider than 10 bit. Now it seems that it is actually 12 bit. The Sdrplay team were actually playing their device down. The opposite of youseff and his me me me mentality.

Some more credible source seems to say otherwise:

Leif sent us an email saying that he did not know how to control our tuner chip and warned us it meant it wouldn't look so good in comparisons, so we are not surprised that in the video we don't stand out.

I'm not surprised either, but for different reasons ;-) Btw, Andy of the RSGB is preparing a more ham-friendly review where he confirms the "excellent dynamic range" as he said.

Well, that just proved my point. When you say "credible", you mean "in agreement with Youseff".

I'm far from the only person to have noticed better sensitivity, and without benching, the S/N is audibly better. So, rather than preaching to the converted, go make a better product. Then you may have something worth writing. Until then, in my opinion (the only one that counts, being an actual purchaser and user) the Airspy is good, but the Sdrplay, is better.

OK, let's start the gain distribution class again. Oh no! I have more important work than teaching random people on forums :)
I'm sure you will be happy with less dynamic range and lower NF. As most RTLSDR users are.
Remark, @jonohudson who knows Leif didn't try to argue on his credibility. I call that wisdom and it is very appreciated.
As a foot note, I'd say that we have now more industrial customers with RF and DSP education than scanning crowd. My next challenge is to render this wonderful technology simple to use by simple people without sacrificing the performance.

Any SDRPLay owners in the US: How long did your order sit in customs? The Royal Mail tracking app says mine has been at JFK for a week now...

Mine was in customs for a couple of days. The Royal Mail tracking page will stop updating after it reaches US Customs. I found that if I put my Royal Mail tracking number in the USPS tracking page it allowed me to track my package in the US. Take a look. You might find that it's already out of customs and closer than you think.

Also FYI someone needs to be home to sign for the package. I was waiting patiently at home the day it was delivered but somehow missed the postman (facepalm!) Good thing I live a mile from the post office, I just drove down and picked it up.

Yes, that appears to be the case. Looks like it's almost here. Thanks for the info, I never would have thought about using the RM tracking number in the USPS website.

BladeRF

I currently have a BladeRF with XB200 Board and it's a total stinker in regards to imaging and aliasing and I'm considering dumping it. My questions are:

SDRPlay vs Airspy - which is better in terms of imaging/Aliasing?

SDRPlay apparently has preselection filters while Airspy uses a different method to avoid imaging. Is that functionality built into the airspy or into SDR#? I want to use sir-radio.com and not lose features or quality.

Thanks
