Who lives where they are going (or have gone) P25 Phase 2

Have you lost monitoring capability because of P25 Phase 2?

Just a quick poll to see how many people will lose some (or all) monitoring capability because of P25 Phase 2/X2 TDMA upgrades.

Who lives in an area where you have lost some (or all) of your local area monitoring capability because of Phase 2?

Who lives in an area where you are getting ready to lose some (or all) of your local monitoring capability because of Phase 2 (i.e. a switch to P2 is planned, but hasn't been instituted yet)?

Who lives where there are no local plans to go to Phase 2 (that you know of)?

P.S. you can see where my vote went!
Also, please post with your location if you voted! All you have to put is city/state! Or you can go into detail!

My situation isn't an option in the poll. There is Phase II in my future, but I will not lose monitoring capability.

Read the OP - X2 is definitely included...

And you can include in the list Loudoun County Virginia, which is also X2

X2-TDMA too! any form or fashion of Phase 2!

Phase 2 is not X2. I understand you want to cover both P2 and X2 but please don't refer to X2 as a form of P2. It's not. Doing so will just add confusion.

Quick summary:

P1 = P25 FDMA
P2 = P25 TDMA
X2 = Motorola proprietary TDMA extension to P1.

P2 and X2 are not compatible.

Furthermore, the GRE PSR-800 decodes Motorola X2-TDMA, so no one is "locked out from listening" to an X2 system. DSD also decodes X2 if you want to go that route.

No scanner can decode Phase II TDMA, nor can DSD yet.

Here's a link:
APCO Project 25 - The RadioReference Wiki

It clearly states that X2-TDMA is a form of Phase 2!!!

No, it does not. X2-TDMA is a form of TDMA, not a form of Phase II.

From the wiki article:

Prior to the final Phase II standard being approved, Motorola developed and implemented their own TDMA protocol known as "X2-TDMA".

X2 uses the same modulation as Phase 1.

TDMA is the technology...Phase II is the standard. X2-TDMA was developed by Motorola well before the Phase II standard was written and adopted. Both make use of TDMA technology, but to state that "X2 is a form of Phase II" is incorrect.

Schenectady County NY has no plans to go to make a change to this either. All Fire and EMS is on UHF and Most PD are on either VHF or 800mhz, Currently no public safety in the county is even on a trunked system.

Sorry if I am barging in, but I am just getting back on line after moving and now I find that my current location or any TX location is not on live audio feed any more. Is this maybe why?

Thanks,

TT

That would not be the problem in North Texas, at least not at this time. While a few of the area systems are capable of using Phase II talkgroups, none of them are actively doing so at this time. Irving has announced plans to build a new, Phase II, P25 system to replace their current EDACS system, but that is probably 18-24 months away, maybe more, from being ready for use.

If you have a specific audio feed that is down, then there is some other reason. Either the feed provider is having equipment or connection problems, or perhaps they have discontinued the feed for some reason. I took a quick look at the Dallas County page, and most feeds seem to be up. All of the listed Denton & Collin County feeds show "up" as well, though there were some posts lamenting the fairly recent discontinuance of the Plano feed.

I'm in Chautauqua county, NY, and monitor Erie county, pa as well, and there are no plans to go P25 right now. We don't even have any trunked systems: FD's are on VHF low and VHF high, and PD's are on VHF high and UHF.

Thank goodness!

Wouldn't it be great if everything would stay like that?
That'd be like Christmas all over again!!,
