Hi all,

Trying to understand the way Suffolk County Fire Dispatches are structured. I hear tone outs on 46.46 MHz and FRES Dispatch on the UHF frequencies. Some villages do their own dispatches and operations on the UHF frequencies as listed in the database.

I hear callsigns like 5047, 7833, Fire Rescue 101, etc calling Firecom, but the frequency of these transmissions are definitely less than 46.46 and UHF ops frequencies for each village. Who these units are and how are the FRES talkgroup used?

I’m told the FRES talk groups will be the new way that any department who wants to communicate with FRES will have to use.
With Low band going extinct and the UHF paging only for paging use, fres don’t have 46.xx available for departments to answer back on

Most Suff county / Township division Identifiers ie 5-0-47 (Brookhaven Town FM) FC-12 (County Fire Coordinator 12) 101 (First div Fire Coordinator 1) are heard on FRES-Command trunking Talk group. Other identifiers from individual depts can be heard calling Firecom on FRES OPS-3 talk group which is replacing the Low band division frequencies ( such as 46.40, 46.48 etc)

As of now the following depts have been heard communicating w Firecom on FRES OPS-3 Talkgroup
Mastic FD
Eastport FD
Weshampton FD
E Moriches FD
Sound Beach FD (only their ambulances are on this TG as of now)

FRES is currently activating several depts on the new UHF paging Freq, but a majority of activation's still occur on 46.46 hence why you will hear activity on both frequencies. Once A Dept and Firecom has all the UHF infrastructure in place including UHF pagers for their members they can request FRES to start activating them on UHF

FRES is slowly moving from low band to total UHF activations and total 800mhz communications with agencies they dispatch for. Right now, its a mixture of low band paging and ops, UHF paging for some, 800mhz ops for just a few. The new design will be broken down into township divisions for the 800mhz (Huntington 1, Huntington 2, Islip 1, Brookhaven 1 etc). The larger townships have more talk groups than the smaller. FRES will not monitor every single township talkgroup, but rather say 1 maybe 2 of them per division. The talkgroups are in place, they're just not active/turned on yet. FRES on the Medcom side communicates with EMS 100% on the 800mhz, has been for a few years now.
