Hello-

Recently the weather /atmosphere has provided some early morning "band openings" which have allowed me to hear "new" frequencies. Many times, I can identify a landmark or callsign, and figure out what agency it is... but I have accumlated a handful that remain a mystery to me. Most of the stations I have identified seem to be from Georgia counties south of Atlanta; some might be NW Florida.

Here are some of my unidentified--- any ideas appreciated:

154.325 PL203.5
154.370 PL100.0 ("401 Worth/Werth street")
154.370 PL162.2 (eastern time zone)
154.220 PL103.5
154.445 DCS754
154.190 PL123.0
154.310 PL123.0 (Radio checks with 3 engines and "snorkle 3")
154.130 PL156.7
154.385 PL162.2
154.385 PL186.2 ("Oakdale and Hwy 80")
155.925 PL107.2 Possibly Bay County FL, but cannot confirm PL tone is theirs
154.430 PL146.2 (central time zone)
155.295 PL250.3
154.175 DCS251
154.160 PL162.2 TIft County GA? ("Old Atlanta Highway")
154.220 PL114.8 (eastern time zone)
154.190 PL74.4 (eastern time zone)
155.385 PL94.8

Thanks!

Hey !!! Some of those frequencies are MY frequencies.....and I'll thank these other folks kindly for staying off of them without my permission !!! :)

These stations can be anywhere within a (typical) 150-200 mile radius of your location.

Yeah springtime on VHF is always fun. Very common to enjoy extended groundwave conditions in the morning and even moreso during the peak sunspot years. We get the same effect on our VHF hamband just a little further down the dial in 144-148mhz. Hear more distant repeaters and simplex traffic all the time.

Never a dull day on the radio

Just matching up frequencies and tones, here are some possibilties:

154.370 PL162.2 (eastern time zone) - Abbeville SC FD or Bamberg Co. SC FD?
154.220 PL103.5 - Union Co NC FD?
154.130 PL156.7 - Cherokee Co. NC FD or Durham Co. FD?
154.385 PL186.2 ("Oakdale and Hwy 80") - Edisto Island FD in Colleton Co. SC?
155.925 PL107.2 Possibly Bay County FL, - Dare Co. NC FD?

The info from Mick seemed to be a "hit"- the address reference, the frequency and the PL tone all point to Worth County GA.

In general, trying to seach a web page is not nearly as reliable as a first hand report. Tracking a single frequency through all state FCC licenses to narrow it down is time consuming. Further, a large number of entries on most web pages do not have PL tones, and that info is not apart of the FCC licensing data, so you can still be left with a lot of ambiguity. It can also be a bit tedious if you aren't familiar with the locations of various counties within a state, since most of the data is organized by state then county etc. How would you know, for example, that Sylvester Georgia is in Worth county without local knowledge or additional Googling?... And we probably all know that just because a frequency is licensed to a user doesn't mean its active. My band openings generally are optimum in a general azimuth, sometimes SW Florida, sometimes towards SE Georgia, and rarely to NW Florida, but not usually all on the same day; keeping note of the timezone (which most departments sooner or later reveal), and the general direction of strongest signal, I can usually narrow it down. Sometimes a well known landmark or a callsign ID seals the deal

I have been able identify about 70+ VHF frequency/PL tones to specific FDs/EMS users in FL and GA, but particularly with a smaller agency that doesn't have a lot of activity, it can be difficult to ID.

Thanks for the responses

I heard many of different vhf/uhf and even 800. I heard from Cail (LAPD) in Florida. Are county so had the same freq as lapd that was back in the 90's before ctcss and dcs came out. that was fun I even heard Virgina and SC NC Ga Tx before. It depends on the sunrise and time of the day. I had a CB and talked to someone from Texas that was cool
