You think FT8 does a good job of pulling signals out of the dirt? Check this out....


It's an interesting look at how they're trying to make radio antennas more sensitive, which would allow the transceiver (cell phone) to be smaller and draw less power. As with everything else, this type of technology could be bridged over to the amateur side some day to allow you to have a handheld multiband radio or scanner with 100 times better sensitivity.

There was some professor who wrote an article in QEX about some strange propagation mode using small fluorescent tube lamps in a shielded enclosure. Apparently the plasma had something to do with it. I tried to research more about it, but seemed no peer articles to explain it.
