If the information on the database here doesn't seem to help check with some other guys in your department and see if one of them might know. If you had a Uniden BC-246T you could put it in close-call mode and get someone near you to key up their radio and you'd have the freq instantly.

Even though I'm in Putnam county, I still listen to SCFD. Goes back to when I was a kid living on L.I.. Doesn't Suffolk county fire control (KEG-977) still dispatch Hagerman on 46.460 Mhz?

Re:: Why cant i hear my department

Hey Guys... i have tried a few of the frequencies given by one of your members and nothing really worked... I made sure they are not locked out, i put in the dcs #'s and nothing... I didnt know about the close call until now and if it works like the one member said it does i might just try that and hopefully it will pick up the frequencies i am looking for.. Thank you for your help and if anybody else has any ideas please write back... Thanks

As we've asked previously, have you checked with your fellow volunteers to see what frequencies they have in their radios? This is general knowledge in a department.
Seems like you're going about this the hard way.

Some possible reasons why you can't hear your department:

Your scanner may be defective or improperly programmed.

They may be using new frequencies that you don't know about.

They may have switched to a newer trunked system.

They may have made an arrangement to be dispatched by a nearby department on their system.

Someone else already suggested this, and this is what I would do: Get a newer scanner that has the Close Call (Uniden) or Signal Stalker (Radio Shack) feature; when someone transmits, their frequency will show up, and you can see where they're transmitting.

The R/S PRO-97 has Signal Stalker, the Uniden BC246 and BCD396T and a few other models have the Close Call feature.
