Why did you get the SDS100 over the SDS200 or vice-versa?

I wanted a handheld I could take with me.

The way I look at it is,
If it is going to sit on a desk for more than 50% of the time get a desktop unit.
If it is going to be mobile for more than 50% of the time get a handheld.
For me I have both.
Connecting and disconnecting to the SDS100 antenna jack often gives me concerns because of the cold solder joint issue.
Also knocking the SDS100 off the table on to the floor is a problem for me.
There is no right or wrong answer here, Get what you feel is best for you and how it will be used.

Hard to believe, but late last summer, I was at a garage sale in Houston, and found an SDS200 for sale, marked $25.00. The lady managing the booth said she knew nothing about it, but thought is was type of clock radio. I asked to plug it in & test it...it seemed to work perfectly. So that's how I ended up with the 200. Maybe I should have felt guilty, right? (Not!!!)
Talk about being blessed with a gift. As for feeling guilty, nah. My one curiosity, is. Since she thought it was a clock radio, how did she get her hands on it in the first place?

I couldn't justify the expense as I have too many hobbies. For me, it sets at home 90% of the time, the other 10% is for portable use. Yes, knocking it off the table could be an issue, so I printed up a stand for it. For the audio limitations I use a Bluetooth transmitter.

While it's hooked up at home I use a remote head for ease of use.

I have a SDS100 that I use just when traveling. I make weekly trips to the Raleigh-Durham and surrounding areas. There's no simulcast issues where I live but driving in those areas there are. I have several handhelds including TRX-1, 436hp, and tried all the tricks with those to listen to some of the more difficult systems and never could get them to decode on some, especially the Harris systems. When the SDS came out I was intrigued but man those things were pricy. So I waited about a year after they came out and kept up with what everybody was saying that had one and just couldn't take it anymore and had to have one. Best decision ever. I haven't had any problem listening to any system. When I'm home it's put up but when I hit the road it's on my dash. To answer your question I got the SDS100 for portability.

All this talk, I may just grab a SDS100. Stopped to meet my wife for a quick beer after work around the corner from our house. Low and behold, big standoff with a bank robber local while we were at the bar. Wish I had been home to hear it all.

The larger display is a good thing. For 100 owners, the third party control head comes in handy when at home. Volume, yup I hear ya loud and clear (pun intended on that one). Some people use amplified extension speakers or even Bluetooth transmitters plugged into the earphone jack.
What kind of control head your are using?

Talk about finding a diamond in a ditch. A working SDS200 for $25.00 is a great find.

You know you’re going to hell for taking advantage of an old lady.
